    Any 33 year olds out there?(Tom. Is C Mart's B-Day)

I am not a thread starter but this factoid bothers me- Tomorrow is Curtis Martin's 33rd birthday. I am 36. I am out of shape. But I also have not had the shit kicked out of me on an anual basis since 5th grade. We needed a RB. We got an FSU guy, I know, but we all need to pray to whoever we pray to that with all this fancy O line fixin' we 'tried' to do in the draft will benefit Grandpa Martin or all of you who wish to get Quinn next year may get your wish. He may go #1 and we may be in position to get him. Go Irish!!

Hey, Cap'n, I'm 36 too, as of 3 weeks ago

I get some knee and back pains once every couple of months, but everything's okay other than that, thank god. I believe I could still take the pounding (Hell, I go to work every day, don't I?) but I wouldn't want to, if I were CM and a millionaire. I would rather get out while I can still walk without pain, if it were me.

I think this is Martin's last year, and he'll be platooned. If none of the other backs on the roster steps up, then we can draft one high next year and plug him in without missing a beat.

I’m 32 and I can still run a mile and bang for five minutes straight.

How is this off topic? It is about our STARTING RB and the fact that we passed on the following: Bush, Maroney, Williams, Adai(LSU dude. I don't spell so good). There may be more. Forget our QB situation(if we can). We may have been safe in the draft but were we smart or proactive? I don't think so.

    34. did you hear cmarts interview after he restructed(i think randy lange wrote it) he was real pissed about his knee. when was the last time you saw martin pissed? now i know the history of over 30 backs, but i have a feeling he will come in with a real chip on his shoulder. he knows this could be it. he will have a better o line. and he will have had his longest off season. im not ready to give up on cmart.

Agreed. We could have used a Lendale White and just hoped Clemens droppped to the third round pick, that would been some good value. I am going to be livid if Lendale tears it up in a Titans uniform. I hate wishing ill on a player but I hope White balloons to 260 and ends up out of the league.

I don't think you realize that getting Clemens all but guarantees no Brady Quinn, the Jets will give this guy at least two years before they try a different route. Wouldn't that be terrible if the Jets are stuck next year in the top 5 with a chance to draft a stud qb and we pass due to Clemens? Then Clemens fails to produce and a couple years from now the Jets trade away all their picks to move up to get a "franchise qb", very negative I know but it could happen, and would be a nightmare.

If "bang" means "have sex", then how is five minutes impressive? I am not in my 30's yet so let me know if there is something to be worried about.

I'm 32, work out every day, former Marine, and i know for a fact that I can not run the way I used to, but I'm a smarter athlete now then I ever was. I do aggree however, that the RB from FSU is all well and good, but we need to upgrade the starting RB position. I imagine after going 5-11 this season, we will address the Front 7 / RB position early in day 1 in next years draft.

With a premiere offensive line, a RB is not that big of a deal. Look at guys like Nick Goings in Carolina or Willie Parker in Pittsburgh. Or even all the RBs to come through Denver the past few years. Its like an afterthought once you have the blockers in place, you don't have to have that top-shelf RB to be successful.

I'll be 32 this summer. I'm in pretty good shape , but have DEFINITELY lost a step. I still try to act like a kid, and can hang with the younger kids, but it usually requires 4 advil before I get going (especially when playing pickup B-ball games at the park) and a bag of ice on my back when I'm done.
Years of skating, surfing and snowboarding have taken it's toll (multiple broken wrists, seperated shoulders, broken/sprained ankles, broken knee, miniscus and mcl sprains and a herniated L5 disc)
I like to say it's Not neccesarily the age, but the mileage  although I couldn't imagine taking an NFL pounding for a decade +, (guess that's why they make the big $$)

Building the oline will be good as they become a cohesive unit it'll make things easier on a new RB. Washington was pretty good though, although I was hoping for a RB a little earlier

You know what? We, as JET fans, heard the same stuff last year. Curt was running the stairs and is in the best shape of his life, etc. This was also the first year he didn't get his 1000 yards. 28 years of bigger guys knocking you to the ground is not the same as bagging groceries for 15 years. Don't get me wrong, I work construction and played organized football(state Champs in 84-GO TITANS!) and I can honestly say that I spent 2 hours(game time) trying(and did) to tackle Emmit Smith. Life catches up and last year Mr. Martin proved it.

I'm 38 and in the best shape of my life. Run 20 miles/week, lift, etc. My body fat is down to 9%. That being said, I definitely have to work twice as hard as I did 5 years ago just to maintain. I used to get away with eating pretty much whatever I wanted. Also, some old injuries have really started to catch up with me and I'm on prescription arthritis pain medication. I cannot even imagine what I'd feel like at my age after getting punished week in and week out like CMart does.

We'll get a RB next year with our top pick and the OL will be much better by then.
