If AA can make the transition like Marcus Coleman did for us back in the day from safety to corner, I would sign up for that any day of the week. Very similar body types, long, athletic safeties that have displayed corner-type skills.

I just remember his two picks in the Monday Night Miracle ( I think he fumbled the first one and gave Miami decent field position) but I always liked him. If I recall, he was exposed to the expansion draft and went to Houston.....

Just find it an interesting comparison now that AA was officially announced as the starter for Sunday.

Yeah, we gave both Coleman and Glenn to the Texans for the expansion draft. Also Ryan Young. Mainly because Parcells destroyed the salary cap situation.

That's right. Forgot about Ryan Young but I remember Glenn going there. Young was a very good tackle considering we got him real late in the draft (I want to say 6th or 7th round?)

I would expect to see him rotate from corner to safety depending on the coverage. I think we need as many cogs as we can get to keep the wheels rolling back there.

I remember Coleman going in as a deep threat WR on a hail Mary and coming down with it to end the half.

Yup I think we will see a lot of that. I think Rex and DT will be very creative with the secondary this year (we have to be) and we will be better on the back-end than most people think. I can't see us going zero as much as Rex has done in the past. We really might see more letting teams get the underneath stuff and having to dink and dunk which is hard to do consistently. As soon as you get a penalty that can put a drive into a tailspin.

And we MUST get turnovers this year......we haven't been a big TO team since Rex has been here but I think with Pryor and improved pass rush that could change.

Yeah, that was against the Bills in September of that same season.

I digress, but kinda reminds of the game where Key had a rushing TD, receiving TD, and pick in the playoff game at the meadowlands.....one of very few home playoff games I have been alive to see for the NYJ.

I only hope Allen can make the same transition that Coleman did, but the big difference now is the rules . It seems almost impossible to play corner these days, back then Coleman was a huge physical corner tht receivers had a tough time with. Now you can't touch these guys at all. The game is so tilted towards the offensive side of the ball it's disgusting IMO. This will Make Allen's transition 20x more difficult than Coleman's was at the time.

You are correct sir. I don't recall Coleman panning out all that great later on though after he got sent to the Texans.

He was never all that great to begin with, but he had his moments.

I rather Calvin Pryor becoming the rangy ball hawking center-fielding free safety we need so Double A can retain his role as the in the box TE blanketing versatile enough to cover the slot SS. Thus, solidifying the 2 safety positions for the next 5-7 years.

IMO the key to the secondary is the pass rush. The jets have never had much of a pass rush under Rex and if given time we will be toasted early and often. Worst group of CBs in the NFL.

Allen focusing on his man coverage can only mean good things.
