As we all have known a few months prior, Jets are not much of a player during this FA period. They have lost their own FAs left and right - and didn't sign much in return. Am I the only one to see this and still think it's a good thing? If anything, Jets are following the spike-year manual down to the letter for now. If they successfully turn Revis into multiple picks (I do like the scenario of 2/3 this year and 1/2 next year from TB. A lot) They would be slashing their excessive baggages and accumulating picks in return. While this year would be painful to watch, I see the light at the end of the tunnel. Once these stupid albatross contracts are all gone, and Jets have a few extra draft picks in the top 100 (this year, and hopefully next year) this team will be able to compete in 3 years. ------------------------------------------------------- P.S. On top of that, Jets didn't lose too much anyway. The defense certainly benefited from Landry's presence, but Landry profited from his opportunity in Green and White in the best possible way as well. I don't think he will be as good as he was here in Indy. After Landry, maybe Keller loss hurts a little. Other than that... all meh losses. Aging vets - and they played about 3 good years past their prime.
I love what we are doing. Sitting on our hands right now waiting for the draft and figuring out the Revis trade. We did not need to make any sort of splash in FA and that's exactly what we didn't do. Our whole organization was silent with the media being completely clueless. No one had a clue what we were doing. I LOVED that. This draft is huge and I think they are planning like hell on it.
I like what we are doing as well. This is a good off season so far. We got rid of old and slow guys(except Landry) and aiming for draft and UDFA's. If we can somehow stockpile picks for 2014 draft I will be very happy. I don't want anything for Revis this year. Let's get as much draft pick for next year as we can.
Its best to just sit back and see where we are heading with this whole thing.Im not going to judge for at least 2-3 years.
no concern here - just looking forward to the draft. the fan in me is kind of in limbo cause its the offseason and i have already reserved another 6-10 (or less) record for next year. but so what - if things play out smartly - 2014 or more than likely 2015 should see marked improvement with a return to the playoffs. hopefully that will coincide with brady and/or manning hanging em up.
I like some things i'm seeing, like creating competition and keeping the media in the dark. Hurt to lose a couple of those guys, but we knew it would happen with our cap situation. So far so good i guess, but a long way to go. Lets see how Idzik does with the draft, the Revis situation, and filling some more holes with cost effective FA's (please sign D Landry), and ultimately the QB position (we aren't done there yet).
we are waiting, waiting, and wating some more. it truely is a buyers market right now. The longer we wait the better chance we will have of signing guys to contracts that are good for the team and create competition. I am a Baltimore Orioles fan (it has been a rough road for me) and this is the approch they took. Grow some talent, buy cheap talent and make sure you communicate nobodys job is untouchable. Take a page out of Buck's book! I LOVE WHAT WE ARE DOING
no concerns here. like the o.p. said, we didnt lose all that much in f.a. we added some speed in barnes and goodson. also we added an o.c. who has a track record of being in the upper half of the league year after year.we have a great defensive mind and a good offensive mind on the sidelines. that alone is going to keep us competitive this year. we have 2 d linemen on the come and 2 wr's with potential.all it takes is morningwig to get any kind of production from the qb position and we are a team that no one wants to play. as much as everybody wants to wrote this season off, there is a good possibilty we are playing meaningful games in december
No, and from skimming threads, I don't think you should feel that is the general consensus. Seems to me the vast majority of people are pleased. I think we're a little split on whether we'll have a good D or not, I think we are vastly underrating Sanchez, and I don't think anyone is yet aware how perfect Goodson is for this offense. But that's off topic
The anti-Tanny approach is a good place to start. Now as long as we can have an anti-Tanny draft we'll be just fine. I love the fact that we're willing to forgo the 2013 season if we have to in order to ensure a solid future for the organization. This is the situation the front office left us in. Love him or hate him, one thing I can say about Mangini is he would have never drafted Sanchez and given up those picks or given him his big unwarranted contract extension. Good God I hate Tanny!
I feel the same way about the Jets as I did when Sandy took over the Mets. I can take a little losing if you're going to build the team the right way. I feel like Alderson has the Mets on the verge of being competitive and has done a good job acquiring young talent and off-loading old, overpaid guys. I feel like Idzik is taking the same approach.
Not saying Idzik can take all the credit for it, but the philosophy that is quietly turning Seattle into a perennial force to be reckoned with is at play now with the Jets, and while it may take a little patience, I'm so happy to see us finally going in this direction as a franchise. Win now just doesn't work. You can't plan it. You set yourself up to win always and the "win now" part just eventually happens.
Exactly. So even if you do win now you eventually crumble under your own weight. That's why teams like Green Bay may have down years but they don't go from 13-3 to 4-12 two seasons later.
i'm not bothered by it i knew we were rebuilding so this inactivity was expected. we already got rid of old/overpaid players, and we've signed cheap players as stopgaps. i like this approach so far. we're just waiting for the draft.
I don't really think the Jets have gotten any worse this off-season. We just cut the fat off. We do have some needs, but a lot of FAs that were out there wanted too much money.
I like what we're doing right now. The guys we're signing are not household names, but extremely productive. We keep this up, we'll have a solid core for the future.
You can avoid crumbling if you have a good QB. Green Bay rebuilt with Favre still under center, and never quite crumbled during the process. Then they were fortunate enough to transition to another good one in Rodgers. Over 2 decades with solid QB play. The Patriots have rebuilt while continuing to win divisions. Baltimore was in win now mode, and were fortunate enough to win now. Now they are in rebuild mode, and feel they have the QB in place to mitigate the crumbling. In Tanny's defense, I'm sure that was the thought process here as well. We just didn't have the right QB in place, and that was Tanny's pick. So we did crumble under our own weight, and are now in full on rebuild in need of a QB as well as depth at almost every position There are a number of ways to approach building a team. The common denominator in every approach is having the right QB.
I love that ESPN article that has us labeled as "huge losers" in FA. Yeah we haven't went out and made any big moves but what exactly do these dumb beat writers expect us to do? Go out and get Wes Welker or Mike Wallace, heck we need a safety might as well get Ed Reed too. I mean seriously, we're doing exactly what we need to be doing right now. I hate this whole image that Sanchez and Tebow has put on us just being the laughing stock of the NFL. Not that I care what people say, just that I get tired of hearing about it ALL the time.
