Sorry if there is/was a similar thread, i haven't found one through the forum search. Name your Jets All-Decade Team: QB: Chad Pennington RB: Curtis Martin, Thomas Jones FB: Jerald Sowell WR: Wayne Chrebet, Laveranues Coles, Jerricho Cotchery TE: Chris Baker OT: D'Brickashaw Ferguson, Jason Fabini OG: Brandon Moore, Randy Thomas C: Kevin Mawae DT: Kris Jenkins, Jason Ferguson DE: John Abraham, Shaun Ellis OLB: Sam Cowart, Mo Lewis MLB: David Harris, Jonathan Vilma CB: Darelle Revis, Aaron Glenn S: Kerry Rhodes, Erik Coleman P: Ben Graham K: Jay Feely KR: Leon Washington
I would take Victor Green over Rhodes on any given Sunday. I'd also add Nick Mangold. He's quickly become the best Center in the league at such a young age. Still, Mawae has been a beast for us. I'd take John Hall over Feely even though Feely's been money for the most part. I don't have any gripe on Chris Baker as best TE the Jets had in the decade, but that's just sad.
Oh ye of short memories... TE - Anthony Becht more starts and catches and TD's than Baker in 5 years, was a great blocker in the run game. OT - Kareem McKenzie over D'Brick since you need a RT to go with a LT and Fabini is still ahead of D'Brick on that side although not by much. OG - Alan Faneca over Randy Thomas because you need a LG to go with a RG and sad as it may seem Faneca's 2 years at LG is the most value the Jets have gotten out of a single player there this decade. OLB - Eric Barton over Sam Cowart. Barton played inside and out but he was a better player for the Jets than Cowart and over a longer period of time. Kicker you can basically pick who you want from Feely and Brien. They both put in two excellent seasons. I guess it will come down to whether or not Feely hits the kicks we need now. If we miss the playoffs it will be because we failed on 3 FG attempts against Atlanta.
Blasphemy. Chad was a good player, and a great member of the Jets organization. Give his mental abilities to Sanchez, and you've got yourself a future HOFer.
In its prime that defense would be dominant but isn't it kind of sad that I'm not sure that offense would even get us to the playoffs nor be middle of the road in terms of offensive stats????
Pennington in his prime like his first year....Thomas Jones with Curtis Martin....I'm pretty sure that offense can lead a team to the playoffs.
QB: Pennington RB: Martin, Jones FB: Sowell WR: Cotchery, Coles TE: Baker OT: Brick, Fabini OG: Moore, Thomas C: Mawae K: Feely P: Graham DE: Abraham, Ellis DT: Jenkins, Ferguson OLB: Lewis, Barton MLB: Harris, Marvin Jones CB: Revis, Glenn S: Green, Rhodes
I agree on TE. fabini was never as good as brick has been the last 2 years. Barton was really good for us, very underappreciated player. I'd also remove Chrebet and out Moss in his place. Watne's best years were in the 90s. Feely is the best K we have had since I began watching the team, after him it would be John Hall not doug Brien. if we miss the playoffs it will be b/c we couldn't beat Cincy and those 3 missed FGs were not feely's fault- only one was. I would also remove Aaron Glenn, he only played w/ us for 2 of the 10 seasons. I'd put Donnie Abe over him. Mo's best days were behind him, I'd put Barton over Mo.
Ok ok hyperbole, still no way he is better than Brick and nowhere close to the upside. Bricks best years are still ahead of him.
Richie Anderson should be the FB, he did make it to the pro bowl. Mawae should be the center but you could make an arguement for giving one of the guard spots to Mangold.
Fabini was a good left tackle. He was a better right tackle before he moved left but he did a good job until he collapsed in '05. The Jets ran better to their left with him at LT than they have run with anybody else in this decade and the sack numbers were very good too (average of 22 sacks a year for Jet's QB's from 2000-2004) until the disaster in 2005.
Yes, but D'Brick's best years will not be for the Jets between 2000 and 2009. Which kind of points out the uselessness of all decade teams anyway. Also have to point out that D'Brick is subpar in the running game. He's not weak but the Jets don't rush well on that side and that's true even with Faneca there.
Why is it that Brick doesn't seem to get any cred in pro bowl voting or the media (and of course, why is he just an 80 in Madden)?
