Rex Ryan specifically called Maybin's name the other day as one who is looking great in training camp. Rex complimented him again today:

I love what Maybin said to the media in response to Rex's praise:

"I've been saying it since I got here. I have so much appreciation and love for this organization and this team for what they've done for me and my career and giving me this opportunity. I would be cheating them, I would be cheating myself by not laying everything out on the line.

"That's the way this game's supposed to be played, that's the way they expect us to play it. So if I'm not going out here and giving 110 percent, I'm not earning my paycheck."

Love the attitude, but I'll get excited once he's burning the Patriots' new LT (Volmer, Solder or whatever the fuck his name is).

His performance on third downs last year shows he can contribute at this level.

Hopefully Maybin will get a chance to play all 3 downs (or at least 1st and 2nd downs) in pre-season. I'm looking forward to see if he can elevate himself to someone who deserves to be on the field even when it's not obvious passing downs. Would be huge plus for Jets because he'd be a constant pass rush threat.

If you can't give a team that resurrected your career and put you in a role you can thrive in a hometown discount, then I dunno wtf.

Id bet he will leave some money off the table to stay here

But you gotta remember how much a great pass rusher gets paid a year. Especially one who is an UFA.

Even if it's just window dressing, I love when an athlete says things like that. Makes you feel good rooting for a guy that says that.

if he progresses and doesnt remain a one trick pony with the outside rip move as a pass rusher, and doesnt remain a liability in the run game.

the jets will need to cut some contracts to keep him. why let a sure thing go and keep unsuccessfully searching when we havent had an outside presence since Abraham?

I have news for people though he wont be earning top dollar like pessimists think.

1 good year will not get him that on an open market. 5-7 mil/yr though? probably

If Maybin has a 10-12 sack here I could see him getting 5 or 6 a year. 7 sounds a little high for someone who has had 1 good year.

That's funny, I remember seeing him get absolutely annihilated the one play I saw him in on ESPN's tc coverage. Have fun watching Maybin get pancaked all year.

Ahmad Brooks only had a few mediocre years and got 6 years 37 million (came off a 7 sack sack year)

Kamerion Wimbley a little more proven and got 5 years 35 million coming off a 7 sack year.

So I think theres a great chance Maybin ends up costing us 5~ million a year.

But if he gets 10 + sacks, I have no fricken clue what teams will do.

It is very possible that he might want a short deal (1-2 years) expiring when the new tv deal goes into effect, giving him a chance to REALLY prove himself and go for a behemoth contract.

Tanny's got his work cut out for him next off-season. At least he'll be able to rework Bart Scott, Calvin Pace, and Eric Smith's contracts
