    Signings:

OG Alan Fancea: PFW said that the Jets have interest in him and I think he could help D'brick a lot, he is a five time all-pro that still has some left

CB Asante Samuel: I do see the Jets making a major run at him. I think it will take a lot something like 6 years 55 million, but the Jets can afford him.

RT Stacy Andrews: The Jets actually brought Andrews in last year to talk when he was a RFA. He is having a decent season from what I have read and will only be 27.

NT Ethan Kelley: It could be him or Sopoaga, but for right now I think the Jets will sign a NT rather than draft a guy like Okam, its still early though.

    Sleeper:

WR Bernard Berrian: I could see this or not see this. We need a 3rd guy and he will be available

    Releases

    CB David Barrett

    LB Eric Barton

    WR Justin McCairens

    LG Adrien Clarke

    NT Sione Pouha

    CB Andre Dyson

QB Chad Pennington - I don't think the Jets will be able to trade him since teams know they want to get rid of him.

    Not Re-Signed

    S Erik Coleman

    LB Victor Hobson

    RT Anthony Clement

NO VILMA TRADE- I have really been watching this situation and I don't see this trade getting done. Vilma has too much value and contrary to popular belief the Jets don't seem like they would trade him for a 2nd round pick. Vilma's problem isn't necessarily size as much as it is that he doesn't seem to read plays well in the 3-4. He also hasn't had a NT. Even though a lot of analysts say you need big linebackers to take on blockers in the 3-4 a 240 lb guy can't take on 310 lb. blockers all day long, the size difference is just too great. Even a guy like Patrick Willis out in SF has trouble with blockers even though there are times he can shed them really well. Vilma is also better in coverage than Harris and I think he will perform very well next year with Harris next year and a big NT to take on two blockers. If we have a NT that can take on two blockers than I think it will be very difficult for opposing O-lines to key on both Vilma and Harris.

    Draft:

    1st round: DE Chris Long
We could go McFadden here, but as crazy as it sounds I could see the Dolphins taking him. Long has played in the 3-4 in college, I expect him to be 290+ by the NFL combine he is at 286 right now. He can be an all-pro lineman for years in IMO.

    2nd round: OLB Shawn Crable
If Okam is here we might take him, but I think that Mangini would love to pair this guy with his old buddy David Harris. He had 7.5 sacks with 4 FF as a 4-3 linebacker. I think he could really be a force.

    3rd round: S Thomas Zbikowski
After the first two rounds I am really not sure who the Jets go with. If this guy falls to the 3rd round (not sure he will) I think the Jets might take a chance on this guy. He seems like he has good potential to be a decent safety and with Kerry Rhodes by his side who knows.

Don't know the draft well enough to predict the rest

    Lineup

    QB: Clemens
    RB: Jones/Washington
    WR: Coles/Cotchery/Berrian
    LT: Brick
    LG: Fancea
    C: Mangold
    RG: Moore
    RT: Andrews

RE: Long, D-Rob (I think they switch him around depending on the situation)
    NT: Kelley, D-Rob
    LE: Ellis

    LOLB: Thomas
    MLB: Harris/Vilma
    ROLB: Crable

    CB: Samuel and Revis

    FS: Rhodes (the man)

    SS: Smith/Zbikowshi

Bernard Berrian is better than Coles and Cotchery...he's not going to take the backseat to either of them. If Chicago had steady QB play, Berrian would put up big numbers.

He's one of the best deep threats in the NFL -- he's the new Joey Galloway.

I started throwing up when I saw Zbikowski in the third.

Not only is that probably too early, but safety/secondary isn't as huge a need right now.

I don't think I want any part of Faneca. He's getting up there in age, he's going to cost a ton, and he hasn't played all that well for a year and a half now. The best two OL signings this offseason will be Andrews and Smiley IMO.

I agree that A.Samuels would make this secondary second to none with A.Samuels, D.Revis and K.Rhodes... But to me... He will be a little to expensive... Im not taking anything away from Samuels but keep in mind... He is playing behind a Patriots Defense, who knows if he would be as great with the Jets.

I would much rather this Jets team put that same type of money on T.Suggs to go along with Vilma and Harris. Suggs, Harris, Vilma, Barton/Thomas... Wow... That would be one of the best Linebackers in all of footall with Revis and Rhodes playing behind them.

And if we can draft D.McFadden... no way we can pass up on the best player in the nation... No way. McFadden is not R.Buch hype, he is 4real

Like the Pats would let us pick someone that we could use in the 34.

I also started throwing up when I saw Zbikowski. As an avid Irish fan, I have been saying for years now that this kid sucks. He's a pretty good PR, but he's no safety, even at the college level. He plays risky, and makes tons of dumb mistakes. He was stupid to go back for another year. He's just not a good player at all and his draft stock took a huge hit. Whoever drafts him is just going to end up leaving him on the bench.

I would be pretty happy with that offensive line...Stacy Andrews would be a nice young RT and Alan Feneca would be a good vet to have.

There are aot of things in this mock offseason that I want to see happen.

Well I don't know too much about this guy so I just threw that name out there, If you gotta a better pick let me know. Smiley is not a guy I think the coaching staff will be aggresive with considering he had season ending shoulder surgery a month ago. I think they want a proven guy next to Faneca. The reason why I didn't project a Dansby or Suggs signing is because I think they will both be franchised. If one of these guys isn't I could see the FO making a run at one of them.

Heres who i would look at if I were the jets.

RT Jordan Gross or Max Starks...both solid tackles. Gross is more technically sound where Starks is just a monster. Either would be an upgrade.

LB Terrell Suggs...this is the move the Jets need to make. Suggs has taken a step back in production this year but it's because the ravens are playing a 4-3. If I'm the Jets he's my number one priority this offseason and because of the drop in production he shouldn't be that expensive to sign. You get him in here to rush t he passer and add a guy like Chris Long to play DE and our defense just got a hell of a lot better.

WR Bernard Berrian - this is a perfect fit for the Jets. Coles and Cotch are both the same type of receiver. They are possesion guys who are good after the catch Berrian would be the deep threat and the perfect compliment to the other two.

Those are my signings this offseason if I am the Jets along with a new NT. I honestly don't know enough about what makes a dt a good fit for the 3-4 so I am not recommending anyone but guys like Albert Haynesworth, Mike Rucker, Tommy Kelly (esp if we bring in Ryan to run the D) are out there.

Max Starks lost his starting job to Willie Colon from Hofstra...no thanks. Any Steelers fan will tell you that the reason they have had issues this year is the offensive line. Starks is huge but does not move well, he's average at best and struggles run blocking since he's so tall. He's very similar to Clement, too many weaknesses in his game.

Faneca was a great player and some stupid team will overpay for one or two years of 80% of what he was. After that he will just be a huge burden against the cap.

Signing Samuel makes no sense. He's a top notch corner but look at the defense in front of him? His team always gets pressure on the qb and stops the run. You never want to overpay for cornerbacks. You can draft them in the mid rounds and develop them. We are going to have to pay Rhodes a lot money so to have all that money tied up in Rhodes and Revis we need to spread the wealth to other units.

I want to sign Stacy Andrews and draft Dorsey. Rotate Dorsey along the line with Coleman and Ellis. We will become a great team through the draft and selective free agent signings. Target one offensive lineman and one defensive front 7 player and go get them. We should have 3 picks in the top 100 so we can get 3 more impact players.

    Players to be cut:
    J-mac
    Barrett
    Adrian Clarke
    Dyson

    Players to trade if possible:
    Pennington
    Robertson

I'd like to see a bigger role for Pouha next year on 1st and 2nd down. Bring Mosley in on obvious passing plays. I don't know what Vilma's story is for next year but i'm assuming we don't trade him and he's not healthy to start the season. It would be stupid to trade a player whose value is at it's lowest.

The keys for next season are:
    1) LG

    2) RT

    3) Defensive line

    4) weakside linebacker

    5) cornerback

    6) wide reciever

    7) depth at TE and other positions.

I actually thought you did a really good job with your mock off-season. It was that one pick that I would never make. I don't know who would be a better pick there. I can definitely live with a safety there, just not that one haha. I endured enough of girls professing their love for "Zibby" at ND games, and I don't want to hear it at Jets games now too haha. I've just never been impressed by his safety play.

I love this pick. Despite my terrible hatred of Notre Dame, I'd love to have this guy on the Jets. He has plenty of upside and gives us another return option. He's a tough player with great instincts, plenty of speed, and he could make our secondary one of the best in the league. Getting him and Samuel/Gay and locking up Rhodes long term and the back four will be set for years.

About your lineup, what about Mosely at DE?

I think that he is definitely going to be in the rotation. I think with Long, Ellis, D-rob, Coleman, and Mosley there are going to be a bunch of different packages with different guys lining up at DE and D-Rob or Mosley at NT on 3rd down passing situations.

might be a homer pick here but being that i got to see him play but if you're gonna go for the white boy safety in the third take a look a Jamie Silva. This kid might not have the physical gifts but he is a ballplayer, plain and simple. He makes plays, has a great nose for the ball and has a nonstop motor combined with a great work ethic and character. The only issue i see is that he might be a little too similar to Rhodes in terms of his game. Not the best in coverage but let him roam and he'll make some big plays.

Another guy that i'm not sure will be there in the third but is worth a good look is CB Dejuan Tribble, good physical corner that can be left alone with the best of them. Pair him with Revis and in 2-3 years we might have the best CB tandem in the league a la baily + bly
I'm not the best evaluator of college talent so take this with a grain of salt, just throwing out two names that i know pretty well that might fit in the Jets plans for the future

...just waiting for Mrelectric to chime in telling me how wrong i am

Why do you wanna cut Dyson?

We might as well keep him if he's healthy next year.

I agree we need to go after suggs ferociously.

I dont know enough about Guards to really tell you who we should get, I think more people need to admit that as well, but that would be the number one need for sure a LG and then after that a RT.

I don't necessarily want Dyson, I'm just telling you what I think will happen in the offseason right now. I don't think the coaching staff likes Dyson right now
