If you need to bitch and moan and cry and rant, there are a dozen other threads you should be clicking on. But seeing as I'm not a Jet fan I don't have any emotional ties, my heart is not broken, and I can actually use my head when I see this game. And I suggest most of you come back to this thread tomorrow morning after you've had a couple of aspirin. This game was exactly what I had expected it to be. A close at first- blow out reality check. This game shows exactly what is wrong, where, and what can be done about it. While it may look like you have holes everywhere right now, and everyone needs to be replaced, it's not like that at all. Keep this team, and use the 28 million in cap this year to bring in some pieces. Sure you need to upgrade your front seven, need more rush, adding a better CB won't hurt. The top thing you guys need to acquire this offseason: Runningback: Half of you know this, half of you are on the Washington kool-aid. You guys need a real bruiser. A guy who can pound it in between the tackles, get those tough yards, and move those chains. Even more importantly a guy who can take 2nd and long and make it 3rd and short. Clearly the redzone offense leaves a lot to be desired. That's because when you get closer to the endzone the field gets shorter and cover zones get tighter making it harder to pass. That's when, most of all, you need a back. Get a back, a REAL back, and the entire offense, particularly the redzone offense, will go up a big notch. There are no big name FA RBs, so don't act like you can get better. No Edge's comming out this year, sorry. Chris Brown, UFA, Tennessee Titans- Can revive his career, especially if he splits carries with Washington. Should be a cheap FA. Ahman Green, UFA, Green Bay Packers- Again, another guy how could be a cheap FA. Fumbles, yes, inconsistent, yes, injury prone, yes. But fumbles can be fixed, production can be made, and the NYJ do a great job keeping their people healthy. Michael Turner, RFA, San Diego Chargers- You'd have to give up a pick or so, but it's not like you have a great one either. IMO, this guy is the best thing you can ask for this season. It's the Chargers Lamont Jordan, and he's better. IMO, your best option, and ofcourse the most costly. A simple signing like Brown or Green can go a long way. Both can produce a lot more than the contracts they will be receiving (close to vet minimums I imagine). And either could be the heavy hand of a committee. If you don't land Turner, expect one of them here. Don't draft, you have enough rookies and lack of experience on offense. You need a veteran runningback.
i too think turner will be a jet. but ive heard hes more of a juker then a thumper, is that true?? if so i dont really want him, but ill take him.
the Jets o-line seemed unable to make holes, which affects their ability to run. a more run dominating o-line will serve the Jets better than simply attempting to plug a better back behind the same offensive line. if they can improve both, great. but if they are only going to be able to improve one significantly, imprve the o-line, you will see far more improvement in the run game with a more run dominating offenseive line and maybe and the same backs than the same o-line and different backs.
If Chris Brown is the answer, then it was a stupid question. Green is too old and fumbles too often. Turner is good, but we don't know how good. If the Jets have to surrender a 1st round pick for him, the gamble is not worth it, in my opinion.
I didn't realize Chris Brown was a UFA. He's most likely gone from Tenn, I'd love to see us sign him. Injuries are a concern, but he won't command big money, a least I don't think so.
I dont. (at all) Either we sign Green and split carries with him and leon or we get turner for a 20+ carry per game back (that sounds weird) or we get a RB with one of our first 2 picks.... (I'd like the 2nd option)
I feel like we need someone like Shaun Andrews on Philly. I know he is a top draft pick but he plays so good at that RG position. He is huge and he doesn't let anyone by him. Along with that he seems like a good run blocker. If we can find someone like that for RG I feel we could have a great OLINE
What hole is he going to run through? Our biggest problem is Moore and Clement, not LW. We need a mauling RT and RG, especially RG. I'm not against moving Kendall to RG and plugging someone in next to Brick either, since that would compensate for Brick's weakness as well, and compensate for the traditional road grading O-lineman's weakness in pass blocking. Fill those two positions, and prepare to be amazed at what this offense can do next year, jmho.
this is so true we need bigger and stronger linemen on the right side to be more effective on the right side.
Turner will be a Jet. He worked with Shotty in SD, he will be had for Washingtons 2nd rd pick. That will be a good move for us.
I'd perfer the draft...the draft is as much of a crap shoot as is FA (after looking @ lamont i believe radier fans will agree!) and thinking of the cost to sign Turner, a draft pick or more plus a long term deal for some one who's basically an unknown I'd rather go with the draft...at least its cheaper, and being a rook doesn't matter its about are you smart and capable enough to produce
Chris Brown? Injury prone and honestly i'd take Washington over him. Green I think is just a zone-blocking running back, not saying he can't do well, but in hopefully trying to establish a more power-run game I don't see Ahman as the guy. Turner I don't know much about, but I kind of don't want to surrender a 2nd rounder for him, even if it is the late one.
