Let's say Favre does retire, and we let Barton and Nugent go, exactly how many of the FA's do we really have a shot at aquiring?
I'm figuring we will sign a vet QB, like a Leftwich, so with all the hot names on the market, and taking into consideration our positions of need, which do you guys see us having a legit shot at, cap wise?

Leigh Bodden CB of the detroit lions was released, i think he could be a very good compliment to revis at corner. 73 tackles, 3 forced fumbles, and 1 pick on the 0-16 lions.

And Jim Leonhard S of the baltimore ravens. He would be a nice compliment to rhodes.

These two moves allow us to draft the likes of Tyson Jackson DE LSU, and maybe even trade up for Brian Cushing LBer from USC, big enough to play the inside, fast enough to play the outside. We got a pretty decent amount of draft picks that allow us to do that.

there is a chance Jackson slides and Cushing would stay at 17.. that would be ideal.

We would need Favre gone, and then dump half the CBs on the team (Barrett, Coleman, Poteat) as well as other backups to create enough space to get maybe 2 quality FAs.

Restructuring needs to be done to a few contracts as well. I think Rhodes will restructure, maybe Pace as well. With all of that done, its about 11-18 million under. Which is a long ways away.

id trade up for cushing, name your price, i'd hate to see the Patriots nab him with they're pick. Which is exactly what will happen if he's there when they pick.

Cushing and Harris in the middle, kinda gives me a boner lol

Am I missing something? Don't we pick before the Patsies?

I'd be so happy to see those guys get cut. I love Lowery in the nickel. I think alot of guys will restructure, Rhodes, Pace, Moore. We could clear up a shit ton of cap room if all this was to happen.

Yeah we do, but if we were to trade up for 2 first round picks, we would have to get ahead of those fuckers. DE is a bigger need then lber. So trade up with whoever you gotta trade with to get ahead of the pats, and draft cushing.

He's a jersey boy too so he'll prolly prefer to play in his home state.

Amen to that brother. I'll never forget the 04' State Championship game at Giants Stadium Don Bosco vs. Bergen Catholic. I went for the sole purpose of seeing Cushing play, and man did he blow me away. The kid did absolutely everything there is to do in a football game short of selling hot dogs at halftime. I kid you not. I've been sold on him ever since.

Scott and Leonhard seem like realistic possibilities.

We wouldn't have to trade up for Cushing. He's a reach at 17 IMO. If Clemens is gonna be the starter, I'd like to see us grab him a weapon like Heyward-Bay or Britt.

Macho Harris, Sean Smith, Darius Butler, or Mike Mickebs would be ideal in the 2nd.

Yeah, I'd sign Bodden in a heartbeat. He must be a great player. After all the 0-16 Lions released him. Go get him Tanny!

We cut Ty Law after a pro bowl season in which he had 10 interceptions. What's your point?

My point is the Lions were 0-16, they have $26M in cap room (8th most) and they released the guy. If he were any good you don't think they try to resign him? Enought with picking up everyone else trash. The Packers knew Favre was done, that's why they let him go. Let's learn from our mistakes.

When Favre is out of here and never to be seen as a Jet again and we make a couple cuts and cap salary adjustments, we should have some room.

In free agency, I like Jim Leonhard because of his Ryan connections and how he plays. He stood out in the playoffs for the Ravens despite being 5-8. But hey, so is Bob Sanders. This makes him very likely to sign here.

For the same reason, I like Bart Scott. He's still 29 and would be a major upgrade over Barton. Not to mention he's experienced in a very similar system. Plus the prospects for 3-4 ILBs are slim. Worrell Williams is a mid round prospect right now. Brian Cushing looks like a 2nd rounder due to injury concerns and coverage problems (And NFLDraftcountdown.com also mentions his lack of instincts). Clint Sintim is my favorite and has a first round grade, but he would have to make a position change.

I think ILB Bart Scott and S Jim Leonhard are realistic signings. Throw in a veteran QB such as Byron Leftwich as well. He will be given a chance to compete to start on a team with a very good surrounding offense and defense, making NY an attractive destination. A veteran OL such as Adrian Jones would be ideal too for depth.

In the draft, we need to go CB in the first or second at LATEST. I love Alphonso Smith as a prospect. Minus his height, 5-9, he looks like the real deal. Check out some scouting reports on him too. Even Vontae Davis or Darius Butler would be great, but I like Smith.

In the second, I would look for a DE such as Evander Hood or Jarron Gilbert.

    Other positions to address:
    - RB: This tandem looks good for 09', but I getting a power back in the mid-later rounds could be useful. Don't forget we still have Jesse Chatman also.
    - WR: I like these receivers and the potential of David Clowney and Chansi Stuckey, but adding another target in the mid rounds would be ideal.
    - OL: Another guy to throw into the mix in the mid-later rounds couldn't hurt.
    - NT: Someone else for the rotation might be worthwhile since Jenkins wore down later in the season.
    - OLB: Another potential pass rusher would be useful as insurance for Gholston and depth purposes.

This is how I see it..

I thought of that as well....he stinks in the Tampa 2....Bodden is more a man-to-man cover corner. But does Schwartz run the same defensive scheme as Marinelli? Because then Bodden's release makes sense....

Point taken. But he was the leader in the browns secondary prior to being sent to Detroit. He played very well when he was with the browns, which ran a similar system with crennel. Also he's great at tackling and can keep up with most WR's step for step.

My idea behind getting Bodden is to get a NUMBER 2 CB. Not to create the most prolific secondary in the history of the NFL. CB being as expensive a position that it is we should be looking for a bargain. Him being released and going to a contender should put the fire under his ass to perform at a high level. The guy had 73 tackles for crying out loud, 3 of em that he forced fumbles.

Who else other then Asomugha is worth a damn at the cb position thats a free agent? Who would be a better option then bodden?

Perhaps the fact that the lions released Bodden means that he does have talent, because if the team that does everything wrong cuts a guy, the team that does everything right should sign him.
