What about moving Jones to center his athletic ability could be used well there. All a center has to do is snap the ball right thats the only difference. the whole line reads the defense not just the center right?

Learning how to snap a football when you've only been an offensive lineman of ANY position for 2 years in your entire life is not that easy. I'll pass on that idea.

Yeah I don't think it would work either.

I don't think he's strong enough to take on big strong DT's. He gets pushed back by undersized DE's, i don't want to know what would happen with a 315 pound nose tackle.

Yeh could be scary, he has bulked up a little but is still to tall and lanky, centers need to be short and stout to get under the mammoth DTs

Hartwig from Tennesse started out that way but he has a very different build, and I am not to sure how good of a center he is either, I do not follow the Titans very much

Kurt the Jets Fan and I have suggested this before and been royally voted down. I still think it is worth a try. We've had Jones for two years now and he didn't exactly shine at tackle.

lol Center is not just about snapping the Ball .. Centers are like the Qb/MLB of the Line .. they can actually call audibles on their blocking base on what he sees .. a rookie center would do better off than JOnes cuz of experience on calling audibles n what not ..

Then maybe we should move Vilma to NT, DT, DE, both OLB positiosn and CB to fill all our needs.

I play tackle and I will tell you that I cannot snap a ball for shit. I've tried learning for two years and still can't do it very well. A center has to be able to almost start moving before they snap the ball without getting a false start. A tough thing to do especially for a newbie.

    not in a million years
    1) not typical centers build (too lanky, centers tend to be shorter and stockier)
    2) doesnt know how to snap
    3) too weak, as said earlier, he gets puched back by 260lb DE's, let alone 320+ lb DT's
    4) center is one of the most intelligent players on the field. it takes a long time tolearn to recognize the defense and assign blocking assignments to the rest of the lineman

It's a legitimate proposition. To say he has the wrong body type is foolish. To say he can't snap is hearsay. Some people can, some can't. To say he can't make the line calls is probably accurate, but that's not to say he can't learn. I personally think he did well enogh in his FIRST YEAR that we shouldn't be talking about moving him, but if Ferguson is such a can't miss player, then maybe we should. If we took Brick in the first and a RT in the second then all of a sudden our line is set for a looooong time, so that's not such a bad idea, but if we take Cutler first, I think we've got to leave Jones at LT and pick up another lineman in round 2 - probably center or RT.

its not that legit to take a guy thats oly been a Offensive tackle what 3 years? and move him to center a position he has not played on any level is a Disaster waiting to happen.

i would rather a real center someone who has done it most of his career

I play high school football and i mainly played DT, but due to injuries almost everyone had to play on both sides of the ball. The coaches tried me out at center and i learned how to snap in just a week. For some people it's hard others it's easy. I don't agree with the agrument that the reason he can't move to center is because he can't snap, that's the easy part, bull rushes, line calls and leverage

how about we just stop moving him around and let him progress already. a new position every year geez in the last 4 yrs he has went from TE to Rt to LT and now yall want to move him center? also this aint HS this is the nfl. 330 lbs DTs bull rushing you. i rather have a guy that knows what he is doing. cant afford for jones to make mistake and get our already dead qb killed

I've said this before, I'm convinced Mangini has someone in mind for centre and it's not Jones. Centre is a specialised position.
