1-the front office is not dragging their feet about rebuilding. They cleaned house of old expensive players that could have lingered on for another year, revis, mangold, marshal, gocomimi, Gilchrist 2-they didn't Draft a qb. Let hack either prove his worth, or Draft a franchise qb next year. 3-they cleared a lot of cap space for next year. Maybe pick up a few offensive linemen, a corner back in next year free agency. Next year we will have a ton of cap space especially after haris, decker, shrine are sent packing. This to me sounds like a 2 year plan that could work. Especially if hack works out. The only thing that can screw this up is if hack doesn't work out...and we win 5 or more games. But logic tells me if hack sucks....so will our record. Especially looking at our schedule.
I too am glad with a final full rebuild. Lipstick ain't cutting it anymore I do like Macc a lot. I have faith. That being said, the tactics could probably have been executed by you and me. Nothing special there. The picks is where Mac will earn his money. I truly hope and pray he does well!!!!!
Macc will really show what he he is, in terms of player evaluation, with the latter round and UDFA's he signs...we need at least a few of these guys to be contributors. I'm pretty sure most long time fans are embracing the rebuild, as we've had years of frustration cheering this team on. This is a pretty exciting, albiet nail biting time as Jets fans because we are so programmed to expect disappointment. A lot are looking at this draft and complaining that we ignored "this" position and concentrated too much on "that" position, but to that I say hold your judgement...this is in no way a 1 year fix. My plan to get through this season is to watch a lot of college football (which I never do) and try to see as much of the "TOP QB PROSPECTS" coming out in 2018, as possible...that and hopfully enjoy watching some of our new toys (draft picks) flying around the field fueling hope that we are finally headed in the right direction.
Macc needs to trade Sheldon and Pryor to get some value for them. With all the projected cap $$ available next year the idea of compensatory picks for letting them walk isn't realistic. Other teams know it as well so he won't get fair returns, but he needs to be able to get something in return.
This was precisely my argument/statement after the Jets drafted Maye and Adams. This is definitely not a 1 year fix and both of those players in theory should fill two tremendous holes.
Idzik got fired because his drafts were epic suck. Mac must do better. Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
They should approach coach this year the same way as QB. Bowles either swims in 2017, or gets replaced in 2018.
If the team looks focused and prepared Bowles did his job this year. They won't win more than a few games, barring Hack becoming a good QB, but if they are ready to play the job got done. I could see Bowles surviving 2-14 and I could see him getting fired off a 7-9.
I don't agree. I do agree that he's terrible thus far, but he's still a young respected coach and is not beyond learning. If the team doesn't progress at all then he probably should go, however, if they improve then you need to let him grow with the roster. A management overhaul will only serve to slow down the rebuild and keep us in the basement longer. Mac is drafting players that fit Bowles scheme. Changing that now means flushing the roster again. Let's begin this new era with rare patience for our young head coach. Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
I'm starting to think they will be traded for picks in season. Give them a couple games to play well and let a few people get hurt. Teams will start calling. Pryor scares me in thsi scenerio though as i want our new dual threats throw out there ASAP. I feel like this post sums it up perfectly. Weeks 15-16-17 this year will be the story of the seaosn. Either they have developed, are showing promise and this regime is on track or we are AWFUL and heads need to roll. IF everything is working except for a few pieces that cna be fixed but if the team is a train wreck then we are back to the drawing board.
That's a very good question! I don't define it by number of win. I want to see better clock management, mid-game adjustments, better decisions (i.e. when to go on 4th down, when to kick FG), improved discipline, when to pull QB -- these sort of things This is the eye test (I hate that phrase btw) and the opinions will differ widely. At the end of the day it will be Mac's decision. In short, Bowles needs to grow as a coach to even be considered for 2018. Even then, if Sean Payton becomes available and is willing to come to NYJ, Bowles is gone.
I know this isn't my question to answer, but I'd like to see competent clock and timeout management in addition to general consistent game preparedness week to week. While the Jets offense may be pretty bad. There is enough talent on the defensive side of the ball that we shouldn't see teams walk down the field on the first drive every game without fail using the same 3 plays. The 2016 Jets were a product of marginal talent and a terrible coaching job in almost equal measurements.
You kicked this out while I was typing up the very same thing. Great minds think alike and all that jazz. This season is all about growth for this team. I'd love to see this defensive line manufacture a real passrush. !st game of last season they seemed to do it with Thomas and Mclendon getting a nice chunk of snaps on the line. That worked and then TB went away from it. I know Thomas got hurt but its like the entire rotation/assignment scheme was scrapped.
Bowles is not young. He's 53. If he works out he'll be good for about 7 seasons before the Jets start thinking about a successor. Roughly 62 is when coaches begin to lose it unless they are very good and delegate well. The hours to be a successful NFL coach are longer than virtually any other job in the world. 100 hour weeks are routine.
I have no idea where you got 62 as the falloff age from but Bowles is right in the middle of all NFL head coaches in literal age. He's young enough for our purpose. Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
