speaking of 3-4 backers, how about Buster Davis. I know we have more inside backers than we can handle, but the man is London Fletcher reincarnate.

Buster Davis 5'10 242 ..nice prospect...
Junior Year (2005): Set career-highs for tackles, tackles for loss and sacks as a member of one of the most feared linebacking corps in the nation...tied for seventh in the ACC and finished second on the team with 91 total tackles...placed fourth on the defense with 38 solo stops...career-high 10.5 tackles for loss were tops among linebackers and were good for third-best on the team behind defensive end Kamerion Wimbley (11) and All-American noseguard Brodrick Bunkley (25)...had at least one tackle for loss in nine games...recorded double-digit tackles in six different games including four of the last five...led the defense in tackles in the final four games of the season (Clemson, Florida, Virginia Tech, Penn State)....career-high 13 stops came against NC State...had sacks in back-to-back games in wins over Boston College and Syracuse...tied with safety Pat Watkins for a team-high ten tackles in the season finale Orange Bowl against Penn State.

I was thinking more along the lines of passrushers I think Buster will go in the 2nd to 3rd round ...middle/inside guys normally dont go in the 1rd ...Glad Vilma did

Id like it but only if he its going to be in the third round, which he probably wont be.
Davis >>>>>>>>Schegal and i hate Florida State, but this guy is going to be a really good player.

  6. I like Gaines Adams as a possible hyrbid LB. He has good size and an insane initial burst.

I also like Poluszny as an ILB in the 3-4. Unfortunately I think we're set there w/ Vilma and Barton

I agree w/ you. When looking at the possible hybrids OLB prospects, the top 2 have to be Quentin Moses and Gaines Adams. I like Moses a lot. Moses looks to be the more gifted natural pass rusher who's faster, more explosive and has the greater upside. However, when I think about this team and what Mangini is trying to built on defense, I think that Gaines Adams should be the guy. Gaines, a fast athletic rusher in his own right, is bigger, stronger and seems to be more ready for the transition to OLB. Clemson lines him up all over the field left, right, inside and out. He rushes in 4, 3 and 2 point stances. He drops back in coverage. The versitility he brings would be more in line with what Mangini wants.

From what I have seen so far this year, Adams tends to disappear a lot in games. I'm going with Moses.

I've noticed the same thing. Plus a lot of his sacks come in garbage time, Moses on the other hand knows how to make a bigtime impact.

Kind of like the 2 1/2 sacks and 5 tackles overall he had in Clemson's upset over Florida State last week despite not practicing all week because of a shoulder separation?

I was at the game and FSU's O-Line is a complete joke. we had a 3rd string freshman in at OT and young/banged up G's. Jeff Bowden still felt the need to run in between tackles all game when theirs no inside running game let alone any. the line was so depleted coming in the game Weatherford threw the ball 19 tiems as opposed to the usual 30-40.

i wouldnt use that game as any indication of his consistency.

I didn't see the game so I can't comment, but I'm not saying he isn't talented and won't put up the numbers. I would still take him on the team I just prefer Moses to him. Also, the game I saw was against BC and he was often pushed completely out of the play or just totally neutralized.

He was completely shut down when he went up against Mario Henderson, a solid, but unspectacular OT prospect. His sacks were when he was left unblocked when Clemson blitzed, minus a sad attempt by Antone Smith on one.

    wasn't this thread about Woodley?

I'd take Woodley lower in the draft -- hopefully with Washington's pick in the early second, and save our #1 for another good player, perhaps a RB or DT.

Earl Everett from Florida, is a beast. He is smart and gets after the QB.

Gaines Adams leads the ACC in QB sacks with 6 1/2 and is 2nd in tackles for loss with 8 1/2. Against then undefeated Wake Forest, Adams had 2 sacks, 6 tackles and 2forced fumbles, recovered one which he returned for a TD.

Coming into the Tennessee game Quentin Moses has tallied just 1 sack playing against offensive juggernauts like Western Kentucky, South Carolina, UAB, Colorado and Mississippi. Mind you his 1 sack came in the 1st game against Western Kentucky.

if we get a shot at alan branch we got to take him. This guy is from michigan which implements the 3-4 and he is 6-6 335. He is rated as the best underclassmen DT for next year! This dude is last years Haloti Ngata except he actually plays in a 3-4 in college so hes prepared.

"With uncertainty and inconsistency characterizing many of the senior prospects along the defensive line thus far in 2006, only a handful to players have emerged as consistent difference-makers along the defensive line. The most impressive at defensive end has unquestionably been Clemson's Gaines Adams. To this point in the season Adams has 24 tackles, including 9.5 tackles for loss and 7.5 sacks. Perhaps most impressive about Adams' efforst this season has been his consistency. He's posted sacks in six consecutive games..."

"Moses has been the recipient of constant double-teams, but has struggled to make plays when the opportunities have presented themselves, thus far and he's not exactly going against elite offensive attacks. In fact, Georgia's first five opponents are a combined 8-16 thoughout September..."

Moses struggles are surprising when you consider he has Charles Johnson, another talented end opposite him that garners attention.

He was playing crappy at the start of the year, no one's going to deny that; but he's picked up his game in recent weeks. Good for him.
