I was thinking how slow the Jets seem to have been in free agency so far this year then realised that often its because we are comparing them as against the whole of the rest of the NFL when it comes to signings. So i had a look back at everyone we signed (rather than re-signed) last season during the whole of free agency (I am not sure this list is 100% correct its just to give a flavour): QB Kevin O'Connell RB John Griffin WR Derrick Mason WR Plaxico Burress WR Dexter M. Jackson WR Eron Riley TE Dedrick Epps TE Jamarko Simmons OT Austin Howard OG Marlon Davis OG Caleb Schlauderaff DL Aaron Maybin LB Dave Herron CB Donald Strickland FS Gerald Alexander FS Mark LeGree I appreciate it was a short FA period but even so, the few players we have managed to sign so far already would seem to make this a better FA period than last year.
Either way, this offseason should be more about the draft than FA. If we sign Braylon Edwards to go along with Landry I will consider FA a success. The draft is key: we must get a contributing OLB, FS and RT from it.
Last year was all about resigning our main guys, that's why you don't see a big free agent move from last year besides Plax. Comparing offseasons without the resignings doesn't seem to make much sense.
there's still a lot of time left in the offseason. riley was definitely an in-season pickup from the broncos. omg TEBOW CONNECTION?? and maybin was picked up pretty late as well. what's going on with atogwe? did he sign somewhere?
*shrugs* I think its still relevant to see who you are "adding" to the team. If you manage to keep your guys then that's great but you are not improving your team, just stopping it from getting worse. I think the only point I was making was that it wouldnt take much at all for this seasons FA to be more productive than last seasons and that the comments about missing this guy and that guy are probably a bit OTT Apologies I should have started another tebow thread (there is only 13 of them on page 1) no, he is still an FA
