    defensive line depth
    offensive line depth
    safety
    middle linebacker
    wide receiver

All bigger needs than running back

that opinion of jacobs is spot on not biased at all. the speed and agility that he has with that size is what makes him so special. without that he is just another guy in the league.

i also agree with getting another back like leon for this team. having two home run hitters to split the reps would hopefully keep both fresh and lower the risk of injury.

I disagree. I'm not saying we should turn into the Lions or Raiders, but can we draft a big-time offensive playmaker already?! Its been a very long time.

If they didn't make a move to get McFadden this year, this FO will never draft a first round RB.

Don't think that is true at all, the fact that they were more then likely to select him at 6 if he made it there tells me they would draft a RB in the first round.

At this point I see RB and WR being the top priority for the draft next year.

There's a reason our offense is slow and plodding. There's a reason our WRs cannot get separation and our primary RB can't make anyone miss or turn the corner. This offense needs a shot in the arm. We need to bring in some big time home run, EXCITING talent. I'm tired of the "depth, depth, depth" conversation. Sometimes you just need to make a splash.

Look, I am all for building from the inside out... but we've done that! Its time to speed things up in the backfield and on the outside. Draft a Moreno, Maclin, Heyward-Bey, even Crabtree type. Inject some life into an offense that has looked comatose for half a decade.

    Thank God for Leon.

First of all, discussing off-season moves when we still have more than half a season to play, with us playing for a first-place tie this weekend, is about as ridiculous a conversation as I've seen on this board.

Second of all, how about we worry about having an offensive line that consistently blocks for the run well, along with a coordinator who is willing to run the ball?

Whenever Jones or Leon are given a hole to run through they get no less than 4 YPC. Our RBs are fine. Our offensive woes are deeper than the RB or WR positions.

Why the running back talk? I'm not sure who knew about this surprising stat...but the Jets are tied for first in the AFC in ypc, and 4th in the NFL. Now, why the runningback talk?

Why is it ridiculous when all hope is lost? There is no 2008 NFL season to look forward to if you're a Jets fan.

And we should definitely be looking to improve our offensive talent. Leon, Cotchery, and Coles are the only legit playmakers on this offense, but they aren't in that elite category. It's not exactly like Jones and Coles are in their primes here.

That is not my point - I started this thread because I like Larry Johnson and I thought he could have an immediate impact for our offense.

I think we have to improve our defense before we improve our offense - it is harder to find great defensive talent in the later rounds as opposed to finding a RB and a WR.

Because everyone seems to think we need a new RB for 2009 - most say through the draft via Moreno or Wells - I was just proposing a different solution with LJ.

I do really like RJ (Rashad Jennings) for the Jets to team with Washington however.

I like the fact that this thread is thinking about the future right now. Thats how a team never drops in talent and stays competitive in the NFL.

You don't want Larry Johnson, take my word for it...and I don't mean for just all of the known troubles he has had. There is more bad to him than just that.

I'm not worried about the RB position but i would like to see a game breaking back.

The jets HAVE a number 1--Leon Washington--they should play him all the time--the cowboys did that with emmitt smith. As for status quo, Thomas Jones is too slow, makes nobody miss and is on his 4th team--for good reason--If they're not going to commit to Leon, use a #1 or get Johnson.

Our coordinator loves running the ball! Only when there are 8 man fronts though...
