I have to say 1st round. Curtis really showed his age last season and isn't getting any younger, I'm sick of one yard gains. We have no running game. Blaylock and Houston are no more than backups at best. Personally, I'd like us to trade down from #4 and to around 7-10 area and take DeAngelo Williams, but I would also be happy if we took someone like Laurence Maroney at #29. I'm aware our o-line needs help, but we have the entire rest of the draft to fix that up.

So what do you think? How should we address the RB situation?

    C. Houston and Martin can split the carries this year. Houston looked pretty damn good behind the swiss cheese o-line last year.

Next year, unless someone drops big time in this draft, enough to make them by far the best player available.

how about an option for 'when the best player available is a halfback?'

Yep. A RB ain't worth a damn without an oline. Develop a strong oline this year and build chemistry then draft a stud RB next year.
Although I wouldn't be opposed with getting one in the 3rd rd or so..... or like you said if good player happened to fall through the cracks.

we have 600,000 (Blaylock), 3,683,333 (Martin), and 230,000 (Houston) base salaries at the Runningback position. thats 4,513,333 for this year alone. as much as people want him gone, blaylock will not be released, there is too much invested in him. Houston showed promise last year albeit 3-4 games and martin is our leader on this offense now, he isnt gone. thats 3 players entrenched at rb for at least this year. unless a guy like deangelo williams falls, i do not see any chance we take a rb for until possibly the 2nd day if any. martin will be off the books next year (under the assumption he will retire after the season).

the first poster mentioned being sick of 1 yard runs, lets put some things into perspective. two years ago martin did win the rushing title did he not? why? a healthy kendall and mawae in addition to a mean right side tandem of mackenzie and becht. last year martin had to deal with a knee injury he sustained in week 1 and plagued him as well as a ravaged line. mawae fabini, a times kendall. we were playing guys who were in camp for maybe one week. so as much as i agree martin showed his age to an extent, he deserves another chance under a new system and a younger line (my ideal being DBRICK, Kendall, MANGOLD, Jones, Moore).

just my 2 cents, any thoughts

Well Barry sanders in his prime would barely average 3 yards a game on our line last year. Our o-line was mostly the problem. I love C-mart however he is done. right now Houston, Blaylock and Martin can carry us during our rebuilding year, next year will be the year, runningback in round 2 I predict. I also believe Houston is a decent back if given a chance.

I'm for not at all. We have three capable runningbacks. If we do a decent job fixing the line we will have a decent running game. If someone like White slips to the end of round one I wouldn't be against drafting him but I would look to draft a Rb in next years draft.

No you are wrong, Sanders had absolutely no line during his prime which is why he had to run all over the place to get yards

Depends who is available. If White or Williams is there at 29, I think we should go for it.

No way to define a round here.

  16. When an RB is the best player available when we are on the clock...that's when we take an RB..

We already have ok backs, if we are not going to get a superstar prospect with our #4 pick then whats the point. We have too many other needs right now to get a rb at #4.

unless by some miracle/act of god reggie bush falls to #4 (i know it wont happen) or if Addai falls to our 3rd round pick, we dont draft a RB this year

How about not til we fix the O-line. I think with a repaired O-line our current 3 will do fine, and our QBs won't sustain injury after injury.

Next year we should see a major addressing unless Houston has liftoff

Blalock could be a june 1st casualty but do you want him costing 1.8 mil for the 2007 season agianst the cap if we cut him this june?

Houston can always go, he is cheap and if he blows in offseason....but is that worth a high pick? not unless someone really drops

    Martin is here next yr

but I see us waiting a yr we wont go RB this yr unless someone falls really far

plus why a RB? most decent ones start their rookie yr.

plus only 14 1st rnd rbs are starters
look at the teams as of now

martin 2nd or 3rd(who cares he isnt a 3rd rnder)
    dillon 2nd rnder(costed a 2nd rnd to trade for)
Willis McGahee 1st rnd but talk to me when he gets over 4 yrs a carry(OVERRATED)
    R Brown 1st rnd

Droughns 3rd or 4th rnd but 3 teams
    J Lewis 5th overall
Rudi Johnson 3rd rnd they have a 1st rnd as a backup
    Willie Parker undrafted FA

    D. Davis 4th rnd(and they want Bush....)
    C. Brown 2nd T Henry 2nd(he could be 3rd)
INDY WE HAVE NO CLUE RIGHT NOW
    Fred Taylor 1

L Johnson 1st rnd, P Holmes undrafted FA 2nd team hes been with
    L jordan 2nd
denver I know its not a 1st rnder
    Tomilson 5th overall

    Barber 2nd
Portis 2nd and they got ripped(Portis for Bailey and a 2nd)
    Westbrook 3rd
    Julius Jones 2nd

Thomas Jones 1st(but this is his 3rd team and he was a FA) cedric benson 4th overall
    Kevin Jones 1st
A Green 2nd(I forgot what he was traded for not a 1st though)
Minny brain fart who is their starter its not a 1st bennett is on NO

    Caddy Williams 5th overall
    Dunn 13th overall Duckett backup
Mc Callister 1st rnd Bennett backup I think they are from the same draft
    D Foster 2nd rnd

StLouis Steven Jackson 1st rnd Faulk 1st rnd
    Zona James 1st rnd
    Seattle Alexander 1st rnd
SF Barlow 3rd rnd Gore?(who cares not 1st rnd)

and its not like De Angelo Williams, Lendale White, or Moroney grade well. In every garbage grading site I see(doesnt mean crap but it means something) they all grade worse than Duckett

so these guys arent playmakers, and I think we can wait next yr since we can get by with what we got this yr
