I think Clemens Psyche might be messed up and Ratliff and Ainge are the unknown. With that said if Farve bolts the whole Franchise is thrown into what if mode yet again. Even if they get in next year it will still take them at least a year or two for them to learn to win and get fully in tune with the Nfl game. Not clemens but definitely the other two.
Very strange, the fortunes of Favre and Pennington this year. It's not stunning that that Favre would have problems -- he is 39, after all. But it is very surprising that Pennington would be playing the best football of his career despite a lack of talent around him. Is it revenge that motivates him? Also, I wonder if he isn't better at making a bad team decent than a good team great.
Chad has had many a great first half of the season. Wait until you have to depend on him in the clutch. Oh wait, you had to already, in week 1.
But even had the Jets not acquired Favre they would be in "what if" mode heading into next season. Chad Pennington was going to be the starter this year, I highly doubt Clemens would have beat him out.
If Chad were traded during the draft this year we would not be talking what if we would know by the end of this year if Clemens or Ratliff would be the answer. There would be no debate. We could have been 4-3 with either of them right now. The diff is we are hoping for one last farve miracle.
So... wait... let's say Brett Favre retires at the end of this year. And let's say Clemens and Ratliff and Ainge have an early QB competition next offseason and someone wins out. Maybe they don't do well and another of them steps in and starts winning. Maybe they don't. How exactly does that set us back 5 years from where we were? Same exact situation. You are trying to change it from the Favre trade to not trading Chad during the draft. You want to bash them for not trading Chad during the draft? Go for it. But don't make it out to be what it isn't. At worst we escalated the priority for finding the QB of the future. Seriously, your argument just sucks.
He's been reasonably good in the clutch this year. He's been pretty good all the time, except for Arizona. I'm more worried about him getting hurt.
Dude, trust me when I tell you I know exactly how you feel. Don't get me wrong, I don't hate Chad. When he is healthy, the guy can be a pretty good QB. But then in the offseason you read 'well I was playing half the year with a high ankle sprain' and you think to yourself 'uh, Chad, if you're too injured to throw an accurate pass, get the fuck off the field'. He is a courageous man, sometimes to the detriment of the team.
How long have you been a Jets fan? That should be explanation enough of why it will take us that long.
I totally agree with every word. If the Jets keep playing the way they are we are going 8-8 at the very best and that may be a slight stretch. They more than have the talent but they are playing like they have a hangover.
You been paying attention the last 40 years? We should have looked for our Qb of the future when Chad hurt his arm the first time? How many years later are we? You think grooming a Qb is easy? We have been looking for one since Namath. If Farve leaves it will be more to it then just plugging in somebody. Coles is a hit away from a diaper, Faneca is not getting any younger nor is Thomas Jones and our Defense is nothing to write home about to this point. Other parts will fall apart while we are waiting for our savior to develop that will slow down the process as well. If getting a Qb of the future was that easy Farve would not be here in the first place.
What does that have to do with the Favre trade? I agree that the team has jacked up their priorities for years, but it still doesn't explain why trading for Favre sets us back 5 years.
While going with Chad (not that much younger than Brett) instead of a rookie moves the Phins forward. OK, whatever.
Ask the Dolphin fan on this post who has been waiting for a Qb since Marino. Who is going to lead the ship going forward and how many years will it take them to get ready?
