I have thought that, but I realize that I'm not going anywhere. I do root for the front runners during the playoffs (usually if the Eagles or Pats make it in, I root for the opposing team as if they are the Jets). I would like to see the culture change. It starts at the top and trickles down from there. Some owners give a shit, others don't... ours really doesn't but pretends to. A Jones, Rooney, Mara, Kraft, or DeBartolo Sr. would be nice, but the only thing to do is to luck out with a FO/CS combo that pulls off the miracle. Even the Eagles are an organization that try to build a winner, but they are from Philly which means they will always suck until that city eats itself. I accept the fact that the Franchise really doesn't give a shit, but I will root anyway because there is some sort of connection that I have with this team. Perhaps one day the staff, from Public Relations to Marketing Director to GM and Coach will be people who want to win it all. It starts at the top.
I'm really starting to feel the same way. I'm really starting to lose hope that the Jets will win one in my lifetime. I wish it were as simple as having better players or a better coaching staff. The problem is, the Jets organization from top to bottom is second-rate when compared to the NFL's elite. We really need a good football mind who has overall control of the operation. The Dolphins have that now in Parcells and don't be surprised if they start whooping our ass in the future. I feel that the tide is about to turn for them.
It's impossible. I've tried many times. If you haven't quit after the Kotite years you never will. Those were some dark times. We need some sort of intervention group. It's harder to quit being a Jets fan than it is to quit smoking, and both are terrible for your long term health. Instead what will happen is you will start expecting this, and stop getting your hopes up ever. You'll become like all the other old timers that have seen the Same Ol' Jets one too many times.
Every so often in a bad time for the Jets, some asshole will invariably say to me "Why don't you just become a Giants fan?" No matter how old I've been when asked this question my answer has always been laced with a lot of cursing.
It would be very hard for any person routing for a team like us this long to switch. I just face the facts, I will be a miserable bastard for the rest of my life. "That's how you can pick out a Jet fan".
If you can live through the Bubby Brister shovel pass right into the arms of a waiting LB for a TD, then you can get through this.
Im leaning more and more towards being a Titans fan (of Tenn). I have a friend who plays there and its not a heart break like it is for being a Jets fan.
Nah, stick with it. First off, as others have said, all the pain makes wining it all that much sweeter. As a Pats and Sox fan, we never won either. I mean with the Sox, it really felt like there was something cosmic against us. Your time will come.
It takes spirit to root for a loser and if you lose consistently enough and bad enough that in it self can have charm. As a kid in NY in the early 60's it was great just to have the Mets and Jets. When the Mets won in 69 it was total magic never to be duplicated by any NY championship since. The problem is we are mediocre and flirt with being good and that isn't fun its frustrating. There is nothing better than a young talented group of losers that figure it out and the light switch goes on and boom winer. The Jets have been like watching a team stuck on a treadmill. Its frustrating and it tends to take some of the fun out of it. We have to look at our team as loveable losers and just hope things will be better tomorrow. Eventually tomorrow will come.
Alex Gordon was the Jets 2nd round pick in 1987. He played in 41 games (started 40) at left outside linebacker for the Jets. He mostly sucked. He played for the LA Raiders in 1990 and then went on to suck for the Bengals for three seasons. Bobby Bell was drafted in the 4th round by the Jets in 1984. He played in 15 games that season and that was it until 1987 when he played in three scab games for the Bears. He is not to be confused with the other linebacker named Bobby Bell who is in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. McMillan, of course, was the 1988 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year.
Of course if they had played a full season, who knows how many more games that team would have won. I agree the '82 was the best Jets team other than in '68 - '69.
Great, enjoy rooting for them. And enjoy all those Super Bowl Championships. Oh that's right, they have one less than the Jets.
hi jetsfighter! I see that you are very upset about not being a good team, but not every team is perfect. my friend from chicago is a very good Cubs fan and she didn't win for more than one hundred years! think about all other team that do not even have one super bowl ring. Our team is lucky to be with one win, but things will get better soon, with BRETT!!
Your kidding right? I bitch alot about the Jets. But if I stop being a Jets fan, it will be the day I stop being a football fan. It is not always easy to keep your hopes up. But I refuse to go root for another team, I would feel like a bandwagonner. Talk about heartbreak, didn't the Titans lose the SuperBowl by a yard?
Who? I don't understand it when someone here notes they know a player, but don't/won't indicate who. What's the big deal if you identify the player by name?
A guy I grew up and played high school hoops with was drafted by the Pats #8 overall in 1990. He played four years with them and four with Miami, of all things. I rooted for him to do well in his career but never to beat the Jets. The one time I saw him play in the pros in person was Pats at Jets 1990 and we destroyed them. I actually felt kind of bad but was still happy in the end the Jets won. I did get a Patriots pennant and sweat pants but never rooted for them. The Pats stuff actually came in handy years later when I used it to tweak some Miami fans at different times. I never did buy any Miami shit, some things you just can't do.
