We may have a Center on our practice squad who could start for us in 2006 and do a good job. His name is Norm Katnik and Jets Confidential had this to say about him in their Whispers: What We're Hearing section: "If the Jets do pick Leinart, he will likely be comfortable with the center snapping him the ball. The leading candidate to replace Kevin Mawae is former USC center Norm Katnik. We hear the Jets are very high on Katnik, and think he can handle the starting job. After Mawae was injured last year, the Jets plucked Katnik off the San Francisco 49ers practice squad, and they were very happy with his work in practice last year. Katnik went undrafted out of college mainly because he was vastly undersized - just 275 pounds. But now he's about 20 pounds heavier, so he has the build to hold up on the NFl level ..."
I can see Katnik as potentially a Brandon Moore situation where we have this unheard of player on our practice squad and when given the opportunity he actually turns out to be solid. I hope so.
Great. Our oline as of yet... LT Jones LG Kendall C Katnik RG Moore RT Cavka Can you say offensive powerhouse :breakdance:
If Katnik is the real deal, then the Jets should still bring in Trey Teague who fills a couple of needs on the line. Teague has good experience, can start, and offers us maximum insurance in the case that Katnik can't start yet. Also, Missant is being developed so the center position can be filled before the draft, opening up the #29 spot to take the best available player (Watson?) and then use #35 to draft the best available RT (McNeil, Winston, or O'Callaghan).
Katnik was claimed by Terry Bradway. We have Tannenbaum now. We'll see how high the new regime is on him....
haha, that's hillarious. call me crazy, but i like this ALOT better: Jones - Kendall - Mangold - Moore - McNeill if we can't get Mangold at #29, I really hope that Katnik is the real deal.
I agree. Bradway loved to pickup those kind of players to play Oline...I don't know if Tanny will agree with that philosophy.
Katnick if he is not the starting center will be very valuable. He has played every postion on an offensive line during his college years. He will surprise everybody. Also keep an eye out for Morley he is a big boy who can play also.
We lost goodwin which was our converter from center to guard and back. We draft mangold at 29 which is going to start and can convert from center to guard if need be. We wont get leinart we will get mario williams and with the 35th pick grab a OT. Justice or McNeill.
