Well, the general theme of that list was that they have brought in players who have the tools to succeed in the League and aren't floundering up here. Gholston, we all know, will take time. However, it's hard to deny his talent. As for Stuckey, we all knew since TC last year that he had a shot at impressing people. Now that he's entrenched in the #3 role, he's doing very well. For a seventh-round pick, that's pretty nice. I guess what I was trying to say is that the scouts have given the fans a lot to be excited about in the way of young players.
No team had EVER signed a RFA w/ that tender and it would have been foolish for su to re-sign Coles at that price anyway but Coles never allowed the Jets to negotiate. We had a better showing in '04 w/o Coles than we did in '02 w/ himso obvuously TB was making some good moves. The Chad deal was a no brainer, it wasn't his fault Chad would ruin his shoulder. Chad wasn't hurt in '02, he had that fluky injury in '03 and looked really good after he came back. The reskin signings worked out in our favor. They wound up overspinding on players and we wound up replacing all of them quite easily. Thankfully the arbiter ruled in favor of the redskins.
People made too big a deal out of Chad Morton. He was a 3rd string RB who had one good game returning kickoffs, which we've had a million guys be able to do since. To me Randy Thomas and John Hall hurt the most, especially Hall. We beat Pittsburgh in 2004 with Hall, no doubt. He might have missed one of those, definitely not both.
Best post in this entire thread. And you never even mentioned the 2nd round draft pick that the Titans fleeced Bradway for Justin McCariens. I'll give Bradway a good amount of credit as a scout, but for all the reasons you have cited above...........he just cant hack it as a GM.
Robertson was a an effective player for us for one single year. Bradway traded 2 draft picks for him. That is indefensible. If you are referring to 2004 with Santana Moss, he was in like a 5 or 6 man tie for 4 in TDs scored with 10, and he ranked 12th in yardage and 16th in reception. I'm not sure I'd consider him a 'top WR in the NFL' for the Jets. You're reaching. He was drafted just as much if not more for his return abilities as for his receiving ability, the drafting trend shows that. I was wrong about the year with Ellis, but the fact remains it was stupid move to try a 1st round DE at the 3-tech role. He didn't even make it into the season as the 3T, they moved him back to end, and Herm threw him under the bus because he was overweight... of course he was overweight because he was converting to 3T in the offseason. I was trying to figure out why I associated the drafting of THomas with the Ellis move to 3T and it made me wonder why we had drafted B. Thomas in '02 when we had Ellis... oh yeah, because Ellis' production dropped off in '01 because he was forced to gain weight for the 3T conversion. Just another bump under the bus. I'm not so much knocking the Vilma pick, I figured a smart guy like you could figure that out. I am knocking the unimagintive and non-cohesive way that Bradway and Edwards approached the draft. And if you are going to try to put the entire draft on Bradway and none of the blame on Herm, you are a buffoon. Um, go re-watch that Buffalo game. Chad scrambled and dove head-first, with his throwing-arm elbow pointed directly at the ground, and the only Buffalo defender that touched him landed on his legs after he already had hit the ground. IT IS ENTIRELY CHAD'S FAULT THAT HIS SHOULDER IS RUINED.
I am glad somebody remembers that. While the Parcells years were fun, he totally mortgaged the future for the team. I think Herm lost about 11 or 12 starters in his first two years because of salary cap reasons, including 4 to the expansion texans.
Not every player you get turns into a good one, I'm sure he would have been alot better had we not changed schemes but looking back that Robertson trdae was a bad one. Moss was a PB caliber WR for us in '03 and '04 and he was playing hurt in '04 so his #s dipped. The Ellis move was a desperate move after ferguson got hurt. You also dais they drafted Thomas to replace Ellis b/c they were moving him to DT and that just wasn't the case. What was wrong w/ the way they approached that draft? Vilma was a very good player for us until mangini ruined him. A Buffoon? that would be the person who was making things up to try to make their point while I countered w/ FACTS. I don't get what point you are trying to make about Chad getting hurt? On his way out the door he gave Mo lewis a big deal when Mo was about done and Bryan Cox a big deal- we had to cut Cox and eat the cap hit. he didn't care about our future.
Your opinions about the quality of the players on the team do not make them FACTS. You think the players on the team were great, others don't. Why is this such a tough concept for some to grasp?
Funny I don't think I ever said Parcells brought those guys on board just that Herm and Bradway didn't. But I though Tuna was some type of special consultant when we drafted Becht, Ellis, Abe and Chad.
ughh i hate the injury excuse for the o-line. all of our lineman were out of shape coming into the season because of herm. if you remember training camp under herm involved little more than a highschool gym class as far as actual activity goes. amazing how the jets have had so few if any major injuries to any lineman since herm left and mangini forced these guys to get in shape for the season. herm brought the mess of injuries on himself by having a daycamp for the team.
Let's recap: -The HC was aewful -The GM was awful -The starting QB was awful How the heck did we make the playoffs 3 of 5 years? Please explain and then remember before they came on board we had not made the playoffs in 3 years and had made it ONCE in 9 years and twice in 14 years. So the GM, HC and QB all stink yet they lead us to more postseasons in 5 years than we made the previous 14. How does that work exactly? If that's the case why didn't we have OL injuries every year? Mangini ran a tough camp last year, how did that work out?
I was, and still am, a huge fan of Chad's. You will NEVER be able to find a quote by me saying Chad is/was awful.
the team had a bad year. how many major injuries were suffered by players? 1 that i can remember justin millers knee. anyone who says that the difference in injuries is pure luck is fooling themselves. sure some injuries are freak and can't be prevented. the amount of injuries on the team in 05 was brought on by herm not having anyone in shape to play.
Word.........Same shit down here too with the Fins according to the jagoffs on the radio. Parcells came in and said the amount of injuries are ridiculous and instituted a way more stringent workout plan and the Fins injury list has been minimal. But hey, don't argue despite Herm's country club atmosphere and horrible game day and in game coaching (really lack there of) he was still a good coach.
Add to that, Herm's idea of offense.....run on first down, run on second down, pass on third down, then punt. It's no wonder the QB's keep getting killed. It's pretty easy for a defense to tee off on a QB when they know what's coming. BTW, KC has used 4 QB's this year. They tried to run the option with Hagans during the Faiders game. Seriously, THE OPTION!!! Needless to say, it failed miserably. If we give y'all another 4th, will you take this idiot coach back??
I personally like Bradways role with the team....He is an excellent evaluator of talent...He just cannot manager a football organization for his life....I would actually be sad to see him go in the role that he is in....
