Adam Shefter just said the Titans are leaning toward Vince Young.

I think this is definately a smokescreen. As many posters have said before, I think the Titans are just trying to get the Jets to stay at number 4 (in the hopes that Leinart falls to them), because they don't want to get into a bidding war with the Jets (I think someone mentioned that the Titans only have 2 Day 1 picks).
To quote the Fox Mock 7.0:

If arm strength and mobility made a QB, Ron Mexico would be a god among men.

Chad Pennington was on his way to becoming a very good NFL QB. He had neither a powerful arm nor was he mobile. I also don't remember Joe Montana ever blowing anyone away with his arm strength or quickness.

There's no way you can predict that Leinart will be a bust. The fact is, right now he is the most polished QB coming out of this draft. If he is staring us in the face at 4, we have to take him. No question.

Unless someone gives us ridiculous compensation at that point (I'm talking along the lines of Mike Ditka/Ricky Willaims) I can not see this organization passing him up.

Enough with the sarcasm, its pissing me off. I never brought up Jay Fiedler in this thread and never said he should be resigned as that would do absolutely nothing for this team at this point. Stay on topic.

Nobody said you ever mentioned us resigning him. But you have to understand that if you said we were going to win a super bowl with Jay Fiedler...you are going to catch alot of criticism for it.

You really don't understand a few things about football or you must ignore them on purpose. If the New York Jets passed on Matt Leinart at 4, it would be so much worse then the Kyle Brady over Sapp ordeal...

I think you are an intelligent person, but to say some of your football opinions are queer (different), is an understatement.

All 3 QB's will be a work in progress, TN has McNair and Volek, they can afford to develop Young and get him in slowly. That's a plus for Young.

I never said specifically that we would win a super bowl because of jay fiedler. I said had he started from the beginning of the year and had a healthy roster, we would've been better off than with chad at 60% healthy.

Matt Leinart is a big prospect, this is true. And taking him really can't be a bad move unless he's a bust. But I'm sure there will be some team willing to give up a fortune for him, see what I mean? If that opportunity is there, we best look into it before deciding to make the pick.

It has to be Leinart at 4 if he is there!

And there is no way that VY would be taken ahead of Leinart...not IMO. With the Norm Chow connection it is bound to happen that Leinart will go to the Titans.

the knocks against leinart are very legitimate and they need to be evaluated by any team before the pick is made......

arm strength and mobility are 2 things that are not going to improve in the NFL. the player either has it or doesn't. ok the arm may get stronger as the player adds muscle but it usually does not translate into a stronger throw.

the other intangibles - accuracy, reading defenses, touch, - these are things that CAN improve while in the early NFL years.

this is the dilemma with leinart and may very well be the reason why young could be the 1st QB taken.

i posted somewhere else tonite - i thiknn cutler turns out to be the real deal. there is something about him - command, quick release.....

i would target him in the middle of the round if possible - he will be the third QB taken so some team at 8-13 will get him.

thats not too say leinart will not be successful in the NFL - if the system is tailored to him and he is surrounded with talent - he will be likely very good.

but some teams just cannot get their act together when trying to build around a certain player.

Sorry but the Titans will take Leinart. If by some surprise they dont then youtrade the pick for multiable picks or take Leinart and trade him. Chances are that Leinart fired his agent because he is dying to play for the Jets and Steinberg probably has told Leinart allready that the Jets will pass on him or use him as trade bait. Thats probably the real story on why he fired his agent. Bring on Williams at 5 when the Jets trade with the Packers who will soon release Favre.

I agree. I want Cutler with our first pick. Ideally, we'd slide down a few spots to grab him, but we'd also risk losing him. I think he'll be the 2nd QB taken, with Leinart going to the Titans. If we slide down too far, we'd risk a team like Oakland or Arizona jumping ahead of us to grab him. Ideally, Mario would be available, and we could somehow convince San Fran to jump ahead of Green Bay to get him. That's very doubtful though.
