I just thought this over in my head... We draft a DT OR DE in the draft and our D-line should be good to go. Our secondary and LB's are all set now. We need 2 OL yet, and then let's add depth to RB,WR, and QB. I think 8-8 is a real reasonable goal.
hobson may very well be cut, or traded if they can find a suitor, but regardless i doubt he starts are starters regardless of where they start will likely be vilma-barton-drafted player-fill in (either kassell, chatham, or possibly another pick, i dont think anyone including mangini is high on hobson) i still could seriously see mcclover switched to SS in the 3-4, he has the size you want for that along with good speed, if mangini could coach him up well enough and if he could adjust well enough he could become a rodney harrison type only much faster (though football smarts probably dumber)
Um yeah he is, that's a fact. Harrison was never fast to begin with, over time he became slower, which was part of the reason why he was cut (i think he was cut, if not just not re-signed) in SD. Belicheck put him in a position to succeed in his defense, that and at the time SD did not run the 3-4, so his speed deficiencies couldn't be hidden. And well now after his horrible injury last season, not even speed wise, just in general he could very well be done, especially when factoring in his age. That and McClover has always had pretty good speed for his size. His problem was being a tweener, he could get away with LB in college but he's to small for that in the pro's. But athlete wise, he is more than capable, as he's fairly strong and quick. Which is why if mentally he can handle a position switch to SS, he may be able to play that position well in the 3-4 (but only the 3-4 since the SS generally lines up in the box or fairly close to the line of scrimmage for run support). I'm not sure quite why you think Harrison is fast and McClover is slow.
Does anyone else think we are playing a one upsmanship game with the Titans? Maybe a little bad blood going back to the Dinger signing, then Mawae, now Kassell? Coincidence?
One thing about Kassell that I didn't see mentioned is his prowess on special teams. He is very good on kickoff coverage. With him, Chatham and Dwight added Westhoff might throw away the cane and start dancing through Hofstra...
I like the signing and love the fact no one knew about it no rumors, no reports, just a signing, (at least thats the way it seemed). Something tells me if this was last year, it would have been leaked long ago. Also Bradway would have made it seem that we just signed Jack Lambert. I like the fact that this and the other signings were treated as just another day at the office. I don't want to get too "happy", but somehow I feel like the "typical Jets" label maybe a thing of the past or maybe it's just the sunshiner in me coming out.
well he did visit a while back, but this also shows that just because they leave without a contract the first time, doesn't mean they won't end up signing here
i dont think so, its possible if they feel a certain player has slipped to them. but with depth completely adressed it seems theyll be looking to fill the more obvious holes on this team come draft day.
