New York Jets pre-practice notes 10/16 by M.A. Mehta/The Star-Ledger Thursday October 16, 2008, 1:38 PM A few tidbits from Eric Mangini's pre-practice press conference: DB Justin Miller (toe), who practiced without restrictions yesterday for the first time since the preseason, isn't a lock to play Sunday in Oakland. Miller has been deactivated in the first five games. "We'll have to see," Mangini said. "It will come down to special teams decisions. When you have a group that's overall pretty healthy, then those decisions come down to who can add the most value, who can contribute the most plays. We'll see how it goes today and tomorrow." Mangini confirmed that Miller's health is no longer a concern. Playing time will "come down to more of a coaching decision," Mangini said. *** WR David Clowney, who broke his collarbone in the preseason, is "making progress," Mangini said. Clowney, who could add a legitimate deep threat with his speed, practiced last week with a red non-contact jersey before shedding it this week. "With his type of injury, it's not just the the running around and cutting, but it's also getting more involved in contact," Mangini said. "Making sure that everything is where it needs to be in terms of the healing process." "So I think he's making strides," Mangini added. "But we're going to go through the full amount of time to make sure that it's where he needs to be." >> Gratuitous Linky <<
Sounds like Miller will not be getting his job back. But he could return kicks, giving Leon a breather.
