Where is the blocking? Where is the OL winning consistently on the line of scrimmage? Being an OL is not just pass blocking!
78 total yards on 21 touches, 3 Td's and a game breaking long of 8................. * Cues up Joe Esposito "You're The Best Around"*:rofl::rofl:
The TDs were nice today, but my buddy and me at the game were keying on him a few times and were not impressed. Sitting in the uppers is nice because you can see all of the plays develop, watching TJ many times there were big holes to his left or right and he always ran into the pack. Just one mans opinion, but definitely not impressed. As someone else mentioned, if this isn't changed/upgraded we will be very limited in what we can do this year...
I agree. He runs hard to where the hole is supposed to be on a called play. Never taking what he may be given in another area. Not a lot of cutbacks or moves to the outside when they are there. The O-line is not doing all that gret in the run game and Jones is not helping out when there is a hole he could bounce to.
At the same time, I don't understand the need for JETS fans to hate JETS players. Makes no sense. All over the board it's hate Coles, Hate Penny, Hate TJ, Hate..hate..hate... It's one thing to have an opinion on it, it's another to constantly Bash players on the team. Maybe if theyt'd root for their fukin team they wouldn't be getting called out. IMO-They deserve it. It's what they get for hating.
My problem with Jones is that he doesnt seem to try to stay on his feet when he blasts through holes, he goes immediately for the dive. If you watch running backs like Marion Barber and a couple of other "very good" running backs, you see there legs always churning and trying everything they can to stay on their feet, Jones never does this. Just my opnion but if you look at his running I believe you will see the same thing. STAY ON YOUR FEET TOM!
I can agree with this and it was the same thing with Curtis Martin towards the end. One thing TJ does have though is a great stiff arm problem is he can't use it up the middle. IMO- The O-Lines run blocking is awful. When you re-watch the games, TJ gets those 3.8 a lot on his own. There have been a few plays where the o-line has opened a hole and he does hit it unfortunately, there are many times where the play is designed for a hole and he has nuthin' and has to cut or bounce into an unblocked player.
If you watched the Giants Game against Cleveland! As a power back you run the ball like Jamal Lewis(cle) ward and jacobs(NYG) thas how you get in the hole if your a north and south runner. Nobody is hating on TJ I think as a fan you should be upset and livid when your team can't run the ball with all the elements added. People are just to happy and content with mediocre running. Like many people already said TJ has tunnel vision and doesn't see cut back lanes and thas coming from someone who went to a actual game no cameras or you can't see what he sees on the TV excuses. The nfl is a game of seconds and inches. Now when when they snap the ball u gotta run at that whole full speed and process and make a decision at the flip of a switch. People always say he is a consistent 1000 yard rusher. In the nfl with 16 games played thas only like 63 yards a game.
People are just gonna have to be happy with what TJ is. A below-average starting back. He's not like the Brandon Jacobs or Marshawn Lynches of the NFL but he deserves his starting spot on our roster at least.
Its so funny when I hear people say things like that. When Curtis Martin came to the Jets in 98 I was not a fan ; even as he racked up the yardage as a jet I always thought about him as the running back that immediately slammed into the field at first contact. Curtis was deadly in space and could get the tough yardage that in years past we seemed to get stuffed on. Thomas Jones as advertised is a bruising up the middle runner and we couldnt give him what he needed in his first year and still lack the cohesiveness to assist him just yet , but its getting better. The addition of Brett Farve has made defenses honest and we can now rack up the short yardages to put us in good positions to choose run or pass. To all of those ready to throw in the towel on the run game should just take a chill pill. Rome wasn't built in a day and the run blocking assignments that had Thomas Jones picking up his yardage last year on the edges should understand it take a while to get it all together . By the way Leon Washington misses holes all the time that open up and no one seems to be crying about that. I guess it good to have more then one position!
Jones isn't horrible, he's doing his job and it's enough to keep the opposition on it's toes. He may not be the threat that Peterson is for the Vikings, but he generally get's yards maybe not huge gains. Hey it could be worse... look at how well Ryan Grant is working out for the Packers.
Ryan Grant is actually beating out T. Jones in Yards. But both haven't lived up to expectations this year.
I just have to bump this thread again, I couldnt believe when it was started and I am still not over it. Thanks for getting me going tanknyc.
TJ really impressed me today. Not just because he had 3 TD's and over a hundred yards. He just looked good on his cutbacks and second effort on his runs. Great blocking, too, of course by our O-line.
