Terrible story...he's in our prayers. Call him a bust because of where he was drafted and what the Jets gave up to get him, but even the critics of the time said he was a project at best. The speed was certainly there, the rest of the package was a work in progress. I'll always remember Jones for the long bombs he did catch, particularly that 50 yard lightning strike down the sideline at Shea to ice Jets Packers 1981. As the song goes, "When you're a Jet, you're a Jet for life."
Very sad story...I heard about this a few months ago. Could this have caused the cancer? I have heard that hard impacts like that can trigger cancer cells to spread. Is this true?
My prayers are with him. His life presented him with many challenges and he demonstrates how brave he is by not giving up. A huge reminder to the fact that there is much more to life than football, and underneath what many people will ultimately remember him "as a draft bust" there is a hell of a good human being helping others.
No. The cancer was already developing in his body, perhaps as long as two years before it's discovered. A lot of people, like myself, only discover they have cancer when something suddenly goes wrong, your doctor is looking for something else as a cause, and a test reveals the real problem.
wow, i almost kinda teared up reading that. gotta wish him the best! it sure would be nice if we didnt have to hear about things like draft bust in this thread.
No. Myeloma is usually sporadic and has no identifiable cause (although familial susceptibility may be present). Often time, myeloma is discovered when a patient is worked up for something else [like nightowltom said] - frequent infections (immunocompromised state), anemia, bone pain, fractures, kidney failure, etc.
Things are still very good right now (played tennis yesterday) but let's just say that I'd like to see my Patriots win one more Super Bowl because either way this is my last season and as a true die hard fan I've decided to do my best to make it to February. Thanks for asking.
We're with you, chief. But don't be greedy buddy, our Jets may not win as many superbowl's in our lifetime as the Pats have won in your lifetime. But I do hope you get to see em do it one more time. Hell, we're not gonna get there anytime soon! Cheers to you buddy.
