Text size: increase text sizedecrease text size Rodney Harrison calls Ricky Williams' block dirty By Ethan J. Skolnick | SunSentinel.com 12:04 AM EDT, September 22, 2008 Rodney Harrison has developed a reputation as one of the NFL's most physical -- some would say dirtiest -- players. After Sunday's game, the Patriots safety called out an opponent: Dolphins running back Ricky Williams. Harrison was angry about the first play of the fourth quarter, when Ronnie Brown sprinted 62 yards with a direct snap. The officials called Williams for a dead-ball personal foul for chop-blocking Patriots linebacker Mike Vrabel, an infraction offset by Vrabel's unnecessary roughness penalty. Brown's touchdown stood, giving the Dolphins a 35-13 lead. Was Williams' block dirty? "Of course it was," Harrison said. "Of course it was. There's no place in the game for that."
I didn't watch the game in it's entirety. I never hear anyone call Ricky a dirty player so let's chalk this up to Harrison being a whiner
I saw the replay last night and I thought that was a borderline block. Harrison is still a whiney bitch.
let the fallout begin...this is great!! i predict by week 6, Moss and Belichick are at odds and Moss systematically rips that lockeroom apart.
Speaking of Moss. No QB = Life with Oakland part duex? Hes played some amazing football thus far and really seems like he care. Man is he a team player.
It wasn?t a chop block, it was a cutblock, and Vrable saw him comming. If that happens inside the box, it?s completely legal. Downfield it?s illegal and was unnecassery in this case, because Ronnie was long gone. I don?t think i would call it a dirty hit, but it was unbeliveable dumb, if Vrable is not even dumber by comitting his own penalty, that TD comes back. That beeing said, even if he would have shot 5 NE Cheerleaders on the field Rodney Harrison has no business in complaining about somone else playing dirty.
i don't think it was dirty. Ricky was obviously unaware of that rule as he rarely is the one doing the blocking downfield. As GJF just said above me, it's legal in the box (where Ricky would normally be blocking). You could make a case that it was unnecessary as Ronnie was clearly going to out-run Vrabel... but actions in real-time are seldom perfect. Ricky is a very mild-mannered guy, and the last person who would purposely inflict injury on someone. While the Pats are disheartened at how the game turned out, i think they're just looking for something to complain about. Vrabel is ok, that play didn't change the course of the game, and it's another day. the fact that Harrison was calling someone else "dirty" has irony written all over it.
