I just watched the Jets TD drive again in a vain attempt to cheer myself up a bit - and one thing jumped out at me. On the TJ run on 1st and 10, Mangold completely dominated Vince Wilfork one-on-one. He drove him to his knees with great technique, leverage and strength. TJ burst through the huge hole for eight yards. Nice play from our young center. But I'm still depressed...
With Brick and Mangold getting appreciation threads, I think Mikey T hit a home run with both draft picks.
It's really amazing; Mangold and D'Brick dominated Wilfork and Seymour yet the Jets offense managed to completely suck while also going against what we've heard is a terrible secondary all off-season long. How did you guys manage to do so awful offensively when you supposedly controlled the line of scrimmage and were facing a terrible secondary?
I'm not a troll, if I were a troll I'd respond with something like "4-12" and not talk football. I'm just interested in hearing how you guys did so poorly when I've read the Patriots secondary is one of the very worst in football on here and now you have several posters claiming you did very well in the trenches. It just doesn't make too much sense, does it?
we are claiming that 2 of 5 O-linemen had good outing against all-pro D-Linemen. These two players were drafted in the same year and are in their 3rd year. Thats the praise. No one is saying the Jets O-Line beat the Pats DLs. The secondary did enough, but they were helped by dropped passes on 3rd downs. Let's try not to spin whats going on here.
I guess I don't have the proper definition of a troll. I didn't realize a troll was someone posting on another teams message board. So if I told you guys that D'Brick was awesome and a tremendous pick and Mangold dominated Wilfork, I'd be a troll as well? I always thought a troll was just someone who has no interest in talking football the way they actually see how the game played out and are only interested in stirring shit up. That's not what I'm here for. I'm here to talk football; I just won't see Jets football in the homerific way some of you do. I call it like I see it. I thought Seymour outplayed D'Brick by a good margin and I thought Wilfork slightly outplayed Mangold. I'll give credit when it's due. For example, Revis was great and held the best receiver in football to 2 catches for 22 yards. Calvin Pace and Bryan Thomas also impressed me, though it's worth noting Bryan Thomas was being blocked by an absolutely horrible blocking TE in David Thomas. Almost forgot Jenkins; he was probably your best player on Sunday.
Sometimes, it is not what you say, it is how you say it. Jet fans come on here and praise a few players, and you say how can that be when the Jets sucked offensively? Well, we are talking about a few guys, not the entire team. You say Seymore and Wilfork outplayed their counterpart, I do not agree. That's called opinion. The fact that you are a pats fan hanging out at a Jets board is reason enough to consider the troll aspect. I don't hang out at Pats boards because I am a Jets fan, not a pats fan.
I was talking about one play. It was a play that showed great promise for the Jets' young center. It was a thread that started out by saying I was trying to cheer myself up. If you choose to see this as somehow being a claim that the Jets dominated the Patriots, then no amount of reasoning will change your opinion.
I just don't get how a fan of any other team wastes their time on another team's message board. I would rather not have access to the internet than spend a second on a Pat's, Fin's or Bill's message board. I couldn't care less about anything their fans would have to say. In the case of the Pat's fans, I hate to say it, but the only way they go away is by beating them. It comes down to the gloat factor I guess. Or their lacking anything really constructive in their lives to waste time reading posts about another team...
Horrible play calling with piss-poor game planning will do that to any team. The best way to minimize the risk of a good offense running on you is to hold onto the ball yourself as long as you can. Back when Chicago had a good D *early 90's* they used to pull this shit on Detroit because they didn't want Barry Sanders running up on their ass. Don't just take my word; Jets are extremely horrible when it comes to the time of possession in the second half, be it Dolfags game or Pats game. ManHerm is just that clueless. Penalties didn't help the cause either; in one occasion, Jets started with 1st and 20, got out of it, only to start with 1st and 20 AGAIN. Patriots didn't commit anything stupid of that magnitude. Now, add the steaming pile of dog shit they call the ST - and the Jets have a losing formula.
mangold looked better last game. jason ferguson got the better of him a few times in miami. that was more of him timing the snap count though then anything else.
outcoached, or not coached at all really, seeing as we have favre using 1% of his arm strength all game
What happened on the 3 runs in a row from 1st and goal? Did Mangold not get any push or was that just a whole line failure?
I haven't been able to force myself to look at that, but I'm guessing that, given the situation, the Pats stacked the line and overwhelmed the o-line. Just a guess... I suppose I'll have to look now to be sure!
What I saw on that 3rd down was Faneca pulling to the left and picking up Sanders (I believe). I don't know who (likely Thomas) Bubba Franks picked up, but Seymour got under D'Brick and stuffed the run. Faneca did his job very well and laid out Sanders on the play. Franks blocked low on the ?LB?...some, but the play broke down where D'Brick was supposed to push Seymour back and it never happened. From what I remember of course.
I don't want to hear any more about how Mangold should've been in the Pro Bowl last year, will be in the Pro Bowl this. I want to believe it...I think he's solid, but so far I don't see anything special. And I put Rhodes in the same category. Players that seem to be poised for the Pro Bowl, but who never dominate an opponent, or make a game winning play when you it. We're dying there last week, all through the second half, and just begging, pleading with somebody to make a play. We're back on defense...again...and we all say, allright, time for our guys to get a turnover. I mean, this is where the great ones make their mark...down late in a game to a division opponent, needing an extraordinary play to turn the tide. Surely, this is where Rhodes will jump the pattern and take the ball the other way. Waiting......Still waiting.....................I guess not. As for Mangold, 3 runs up the gut over your back and Jones never gets there. I watch other teams and other stars seize the game, and they look like their another species compared to our superstars. I'm rooting for Mangold, and Rhodes and Ferguson, but I'm not voting Pro Bowls until I see these Jets "Stars" make the game-turning impact plays that a Polamalu or Urlacher makes. Until our guys PUT UP, you can all just SHUT UP about the Pro Bowl.
