I wouldnt doubt someone in the future is going to do what Eli did, why not if it gets you to the team that you want.
Elway, Manning...Leinart? The tradition of players not wanting to play for the team that drafts (or is going to draft) them opens the door to their lives being under an enormous microscope, much more scrutiny, and little give in terms of forgiveness and patience from fans and sports critics alike. If Leinart does this, there is going to be a flood of criticism and second-guessers, and the pressure will be even greater for him(as if playing in NY isn't already the biggest pressure cooker in the galaxy). Yet, if he comes out and performs well, his legend will only grow and grow. And at what cost would this happen? Do we have to give up next year's 1st round like the Giants had to do? If that's the case, then I hope the Jets stick where they are, and start rebuilding that gaping hole of an offensive line. If D'Brick's not there...forget Mario. Trade down and build from the later rounds, and future fa's. If Leinart's there at #4...great! If not, then we go with the Penny/Patrick combo, which just might lead to Brady Quinn next year. A good offensive line makes an average qb appear good. A bad offensive line makes a Montana look like a Mirer. If we get Leinart, and do nothing to improve our o-line...we will destroy this kid's career.
No chance. I'm sure he'd love New York, but he'd also love playing with Chow in Tenessee, and he'll be happy at most other places too. And Eli avoided one place, he wasn't holding out just for New York. Plus, Eli was part of NFL family royalty, and had someone to orchestrate that for him. Leinart doesn't have that.
Y DO WE EVEN NEED LEINART??????????????? we dont and if we draft him Tangini will ruin the rebuilding stage imo
I know you were just making a point but... I'd trade my mother for the next coming of Barry Sanders.
I dont agree with the way Eli had his father lobby for him to go to NY and i hate to admit it but i think he will be a good QB for NYG. i dont think he will be as good as Peyton, but he's improved alot so far. With that said I would love for NYJ to get Leinart. I dont care how, if your gonna re-build you might as well start with the QB.
Hmmm, let's review? Older brother who has all the media kissing his butt, but can't win the big games? Eli: Yes - Leinhart: No Dad who keeps blabbing to the media and not letting his sons stand up for themselves? Eli: Yes - Leinhart: No Willing to play for whoever drafts him cos he should be honoured to get to the NFL? Eli: No - Leinhart: Yes National NCAA Championships? Eli: No - Leinhart: Yes Heismann Trophy? Eli: No - Leinhart: Yes Conclusion? Leinhart is not like Eli!
Don't forget, "Stayed in school cos he felt he had more to learn before he would be a good NFL-quality QB, rather going for the easy money?" Eli: No - Leinhart: Yes
Being the best player on Ole Miss and the 2nd best player on USC are very different things. I think USC has just a bit better football program
Yep, but Leinhart was a 2nd year senior, and he has always said he went back because he did not feel like he had learnt enough to make him a great NFL QB. This is after he won the Heismann and the RoseBowl!
Leinart staying to be a 5th year senior does say something about his character, and i like that, at first i thought he made a stupid decision, personally i would have left school. But if it works out and NYJ get him, then i will say staying the extra year was the best thing he could have done
That is my point look at the players and where they were drafted. Matt has been surrounded by an All American Oline, Wrs, Rbs (one great rb), and Eli had who? A 4th round lineman. He has also proved that he can play in the NFL - Matt hasn't proven anything as far as the NFL goes so if I had my choice I would take Eli in a heart beat and give the Giants Matt.
