He looked decent. He seems to lack a certain aggression. Maybe he's still just feeling things out, but I'd like to see him turn it up soon. Some actual pass-rushing moves might not hurt either.

He looked pretty bad today. He got no burst off the line and he just engaged blockers and stood there without doing any sort of moves. He keeps trying to push them back and it doesn't work. The concern is that he's not even trying anything else. i would rather see him get pancaked trying a spin move than him just staying there doing nothing.

    Not really.

He didn't blow us away, but he looked way less n00bish than he did during the preseason.

It's a freaking football message board idiot. Use a football related image and spare us your stupid political views. Oh I forgot you liberals know everything and think you should be able to tell everyone else how to live.

Hah, You guys crack me up with all this 'politics' talk in a Vernon Gholston thread. Seriously though Gholston looked solid; not great nor did he look awful he was just solid.

Stop the political talk it's stupid on an NFL forum in all honesty you're just degrading yourselves. Grow Up! I guess 1969 isn't trying to persuade others to vote for McCain, because calling others "idiots" sure doesnt make me want to follow in your path.

(Not saying that I'm voting for McCain or Obama no politics coming from Acal :) )

    GO JETS! :jets:

When he rushed the QB and almoooost got a sack. I hope you think putting a pressure on a QB is solid.. or else I you re-think your definition of football :) lol.

All kidding aside. I saw him selectively on that rush and near an in completion which I thought if he had a little more speed he could have ve had an interception.

Ya I agree Sarah Palin looks pretty hot. I would hit it.

Oh my bad this thread is about Gholston. I think he looked better than he did in the preseason. I am more confident now than I was yesterday about Gholston's progression. He needs to start practicing on his techniques. He tries to bull rush, and that's not going to work in the NFL against 6-5 310lb OT. I saw Gholston, Pace, Thomas, and Bowen on the field at the same time on few plays. I hope this lineup can be have similar result to the one of Giants last year.

Oh, I agree he didn't look as lost, but I think a lot of that was that we didn't see him playing in a lot of running situations.

He had his hand down, rushing the passer pretty often (or at least most of the time he was in the game)... He was much quicker off the line when his hand was down, but, as others have mentioned here, he didn't have anyway to get off a block. He tried to run through them, or around them... And needless to say, it didn't work....

I did see a decent burst coming across though, along with a little more awareness the few times he was in coverage, and I've still got hope for him...

People should stop expecting Gholston to be Shawne Merriman overnight. Give the kid some time. He'll arrive at his own pace. Speaking of which, Pace and Bryan Thomas looked unbelievable. If the defense can bring this type of intensity every game, the Jets could make some noise.

That's what I thought I saw. On most of the plays, when you were looking at 56 he was getting punched in the mouth and stood up..........

he was only thrown to once, and was on the field for about 12 snaps. Baker and Franks were on the field more.

    His one catch was nice....
