It is funny how alot of fans on here get so sensitive about what the media writes about the team. If it is a positive article, they get mostly praise, if it is negative, the writer gets blasted. Not everyone is going to like the team, and it is all just opinion until the season starts. Then we will see who was right all along.
Yeah, you sort of indirectly hit the nail on the head. With the advent of the internet and ESPN there are really very few journalists anymore. Just a bunch of slobs who think they have a right to editorialize on anything and everything they choose. There is no such thing as just reporting the news in sports anymore. Everything comes from the soapbox or pulpit, take your choice.
I agree, you have to take things with a grain of salt. Sort of like Aikman being in the booth for a Cowboys game. No bias there right? Alot of writers are biased, that's why you can't take too much out of these articles. I don't let the stuff they write affect me either way. I will base my judgement on what happens on the field.
Well I think the reason many fans are so sensitive is b/c we've been second fiddle in the largest sports media market in the world for so long. Plus there's always a sense of "mocking" from the national outlets like Espn, towards the Jets. Frankly, I don't give a shit. Especially w/ the national media. You wanna see how ridiculous they are? See how much theyve see-sawed over the year's w/ the Pats. All they care about is looking good in the public/sponser eye...their opinion means very little.
the issue i have is that if these writers are so biased, then won't they be partial when it comes to hall of fame voting as well? i guess that wud effect the borderline players only.
I hope this happens sooner than later. I would take listening to Tom Brady in the booth scrutinizing our team and their plays any day over having him on the field.
The media is little more then a second form of sports entertainment at this point. Few involved have much of a grasp of whats going on outside of what will get them ratings or readership. Its sad but true.
Ha you want to listen to a NYJ hater log onto WQAM,com from 6AM to 10AM & listen to Joe Rose. Cimini is a pussycat compared to him
We had years of Len Dawson who hated the Jets and now Dummy Dan Marino is on every other studio show, so that would be nothing new. Of course we did have Joe in the booth for a while--he did the 1991 finale when the Jets rallied to beat Miami for a playoff spot. That was great, he was so blatantly rooting for the Jets.
I love listening to the Giants radio team because I get to hear Dick Lynch cry when they make the playoffs or win a huge game, and it's hilarious when he starts using "we" instead of talking about the Giants as an unbiased announcer.
While we are on the topic of broadcasters, I personally hated Dave Jennings on the broadcast. He always sounded depressed and pessimistic about the Jets chances. It always sounded like he was going to burst into tears any moment.
IMHO this should have ben captioned NYJ fans are TO sensitive to what is & what is not said about them
All fans are. That's why there is a sports section in every newpaper in the country, and why most beat writers put a negative slant on any team that isn't a dynasty, and some that are. To sell copies.
