the only way we swap with the Saints is if the Saints want to pick Brick at a spot lower than #2 and if we really really want Leinart, and we think the Titans will choose him.

otherwise, i can't see the Saints trading with ANYONE beyond our #4 because then they risk losing Brick to us, with everyone and their mother knowing there's a good chance we'll take him to help our OL woes.

at this point, i think we should stay put because each day it appears we either gain leverage or gain better position to hit a homerun in this draft.

    cheers

Pure athletisism can win at the college level. This unfortunately for Mr. Young, is no longer the college level. This is the NFL, where everyone is as big and as fast as he is. He will not be successful in the NFL as a QB.

    Take Mario...

Kwakou Robinson Virginia 6-3 7/8 319. He'd be a great day 2 pickup. With the right coaching, I think this guy could become a damn good runstopper.

The Texans know this draft is very deep with O-linemen. There's great value to be had in the second and third rounds. There's no way I see them passing up Bush.

They just traded their 35 year old Left Tackle? Wow, that's pretty good for them.

But yes, it is a lock for them to take Ferguson at #2.

Super Mario at #4, Nick Mangold at #29 (unless DeAngelo Williams falls), Bobby Carpenter at #35 (unless we get DeAngelo, then the best O-Lineman available

    very true.

but, at the same time, they don't want to repeat the same mistake for like the fifth year in a row.

if they're set on drafting Ferguson, then they'l probably trade down because there's no way they're picking him #1, thereby receiving no compensation/value for passing on Bush. it seems inconceivable that any team would pass on Bush if he's there for the taking; but with Dominick Davis' extension, a premier WR in Andre Johnson, and Jerome Mathis as one of the elite return men, Bush isn't really a top priority for them.

therefore, they'll probably get ridiculous value for #1/Bush, by only moving down several spots. however, like i mentioned in my previous post, they may not want to gamble and trade down below us because they may fear losing Ferguson to us.

and now, to completely contradict myself, there's this whole thing with the Saints. evidently, Brick won't get past #4 because, odds are, either New Orleans or us will grab him. neither the Titans nor the Saints have any reason to move up and we probably won't either; so, maybe they do take Bush and rely on their ensuing picks to draft starting OL.

all i know is, if New Orleans is set on Ferguson, we will most likely get Mario Williams; personally, this is the guy i want, so i'm A-OKAY with this scenario.

    cheers

IMO, based on the fact that this is one of the deepest draft boards in a long time, I don't think anyone would be willing to move up to #1. They would have to give up way too much.

The Texans get a very versatile weapon in Bush. You can line Davis up in the backfield and Bush in the slot (with Johnson and Moulds) and offenses wouldn't know what's coming. I don't know how long Davis is signed for, but I'd be willing to bet they wouldn't mind letting Bush play in a situational role for a couple of years and then grabbing someone cheaper to compliment him if Davis' contract comes up.

    good point.

except, you'd think the #1 pick (except for an unprepared franchise QB) is going to be much more for you than just a "situational" player for a few years.

Saints Trade with Draft Implications for Jets

Today the Saints announced a trade with the Atlanta Falcons that sent starting left tackle Wanye Gandy to the falcons for safety bryan scott and a draft pick... this positions the saints perfectly to select coveted left tackle d'brickashaw ferguson (whom i have made clear i hoped the jets would get), so it seems unlikely now that he will drop to us at the 4th spot... i guess its probably mario or aj hawk now which probably makes alotta people around here pretty happy, but regardlessly we'll still get a difference maker unless we do something completely crazy...

Okay...I would be extremely happy with Mario (as I've said many times in the past - even before the Abe trade went through)

Well I'm a bit disappointed, Dbrick was my top choice with Mario coming in 2nd. . .I guess this certainly takes the guesswork out of who we would take if we remain with the no.4 pick. Still, getting someone with the rare physical tools like Super Mario doesn't come around every year. I'm looking forward to seeing what schemes Mangini can make using our possible future cornerstone DE ...

So I guess you didn't see the thread "Saints on Verge of Taking Ferguson" which is essentially the same thread as this.

You have no idea what you are talking about. The people who didn't watch Vince Young in college may think all he did was out-athlete everyone else, but that was not the case. There is no way he could have accomplished what he did if it was simple athleticism.

The guy is smart. Football smart. He is poised and controlled. He knows how to control a football game. He accomplished what he did in college with his instincts, his heart, his confidence, and, yes, his brains.

You people who think Vince will not translate into the NFL have obviously not seen enough of him in college. The guy is not just an athlete. That's the whole point of why he is so special.

If he's there at #4 and you pass on him, he will make a fool of you.
