I agree to a point. Its just hard for me to believe that NO would upgrade their D-line (which is very young and talented by the way) when their O-line has gaping holes. This could very well be a smokescreen, but based on how things have played out so far I actually think the Jets are in a better position than the Saints in a trade down scenario. I don't think anyone is willing to give up a king's ransom the Saints will ask for to move up to the #2, and if N.O. doesn't get what they want, staying put and grabbing D'brick would make the most sense for them. Vince Young's stock is on the rise, and I could easily see a team like Arizona, Oakland, hell maybe even Detroit (nothing Millen does would ever surprise me) try to move up and grab him at the 4.
You've just outlined the most likely scenario, now, I think. Bush, Leinart and Ferguson are all gone and we get on the clock... "And with the 4th pick of the 2006 NFL Draft, the New York Jets select QB Vince Young!"
If the New York Jets have the opportunity to draft Vince Young and they dont this franchise will never win a Super Bowl. We would be the laughing stock of the NFL without a doubt if we dont choose him.
If the Jets take Vince Young over Mario Williams, they deserve to rot at the bottom of the league for the next decade or two.
That would be my worst nightmare. If Bush, Leinart, and Ferguson are gone, we need to take either Mario Williams or Hawk.
Did you guys see this man Vince Young dominate the Rose Bowl he made USC look like a flag football team all by himself. This guy is the real deal. Order me up a Vince Young jersey.
Saints don't need to blow smoke/fool anyone They're picking second and the Texans are taking Bush. They don't have to worry about anyone taking who they want (other than Bush). Anyone trying to trade into the 1st pick will surely be taking Bush.
Jammal Brown was originally projected as a LT, but moved to RT as a rookie. It is likely he'll move to the left side.
USC had a very mediocre defense. Vince Young will NOT be able to make those kinds of play against an NFL defense. Vince Young does NOT fit into the style of offense I believe the Jets will try to run. I will pass on drafting a QB who has never taken a snap from under the center.
Don't forget, Young was under TREMENDOUS pressure. This was THE BIG GAME, the BIG one. Even the announcer said (and rightfully so), the great QBs are the ones who win the BIG games. Always the stigma... John Elway, for example... great QB, but never won the big game until the SB. Well, Young did just that... the game was HUGE and he kept coming back and found a way to win it. THAT's what makes a QB great. We need this guy. Coles needs this guy.
now THAT could be the smokescreen... Payton is saying that now but, Brown is a better run blocker and Ferguson is a better pass blocker so if he is going Ferguson it's unlikely Brown is switching....
