I didn't really think about this until now, and it might be too late for the Jets FO to feasibly pull off such a trade, but would anyone be in favor of trading for the very talented odd man out in Philly in Sheldon Brown. He's a pro bowl caliber CB who will be a nickel guy behind Asante and Lito. The Jets could really use him opposite Revis and this would allow Miller to be used as a nickel back where I think he could excel. This would effectively fill the CB need for a while.
The Jets really have no trade bait. We can't touch our first 4 picks in the '09 Draft, we lack depth anywhere, especially in position the Eggles would want most, WR. He'd be a great pickup, but we just have nothing to dangle.
I hope people move away from such phraseology because the Pro Bowl is a joke. All-Pro caliber CB would be much better. Or simply a quality CB. Al Harris coasted to a Pro Bowl appearance last season based on reputation. He had a poor season and should not have been anywhere near the Pro Bowl. Charles Tillman should have gone in Harris' stead. Harris' performance in the Dallas game was one of the most hideous efforts I have ever seen by a cornerback. (Ray Mickens against Washington in September 1999, days after inking a new contract, was also very hot garbage.) While I'm on the topic of bad play from DBs, ex-Jet Oliver Celestin was putrid in the 49ers at Cardinals game in 2007. He started in place of Adrian Wilson at the safety position. Celestin whiffed on several attempted tackles of Frank Gore. It was a truly embarrassing performance. Then there's Jason David.
if we get anyone from Phily its gonna be lito sheppard he right now is the nickle as of right on philys depth chart http://www.philadelphiaeagles.com/team/DepthChart_Text.asp
The Saints promised a second round pick to the Giants for Shockey and they had already promised us a conditional pick that could turn into a second for the same year if Vilma meets requirements. There are contingencies built into trades like this.
I assume you're referring to the poison pill clause from that trade that says we have to give 3 first round picks to the Packers if we were to trade Favre to an NFC North team? If that's the case, that clause would have no impact on whether or not we could trade any of our first 4 2009 picks. If that's not the case, please explain what you're talking about.
Ah, Google has failed me once again. In my (not-so) exhaustive search, I was informed we could not offer our first 4 picks as compensation to anyone in any trade, as long as they were on the table to the Packers. Apperently, that's not true! Still, I doubt he's even available.
I don't think we need a CB-Dwight Lowey and Darrell Revis will be the starters for the next 5 years...do they have any reliable kickers laying around?
Brown and Samuel are the starting corners in Philly, Sheppard's the one that wants out since he lost his job due to the signing of Asante
There's a possibility that we'd be sending a 1st-4th rounder so im assuming that means we cant trade those until the season's over? im not sure how conditional picks work with other trades and overlapping picks...if anybody does let me kno im pretty curious about that
Anyone named Sheldon that can potentially kick ass in NY is a win/win; but, can he change a flat tire w/out calling AAA?
