Whats up fellas? I have been on vacation in Portugal since August 4th and just got home today. I have been trying to catch up on everything Jets. I knew they got Favre, because I was able to check my e mail every once in a while and a friend e mailed me the news. And it was even was on the news over there, which is shocking because all they care about is soccer. But I just found a Peter King article that said Brett Ratliff was moved up to #2 on the depth chart. I can't say I know anything about the guy other than that he was on the practice squad last year. King's article said this guy is 6-04 with a rocket arm. So I have two questions. One, is he really beating out Clemens for #2? And the other is does he really look like he has the potential to be a strong starter in this league sometime in the future?

So far in preseason Ratty has looked great ofcourse against the backups but Clemens hasnt done well against the backups. He did have a couple of dropped passes saturday night but overall so far Rattlif has looked very good and i wouldnt be suprised if he is #2 on the Depth chart for now. An he definately could have potential as a starter he's 6'4 big arm and throws a very catchable ball and has looked very good so far , Learning from Favre this season could only make this guy better.

He has been very accurate and looks very poised in the pocket. I'd say he has outplayed Clements... Clements always seems to me like he isn't 100% comfortable back there.

I don't think he has been moved to number 2 but if that happens I will be the first to wave goodbye to Clemens.

If you can catch any of the previous preseason games on NFL Network. Watch Ratliff, the kid is very impressive.

This Saturday the rumor was that Ratliff would be the second QB in after Favre... that may be a good indication of what to expect this season, Ratliff certainly deserves it at this point.

That wouldn't give Clements much paying time at all.

I think he was responding to the correctness of the spelling of Clemens.

Ratlif kinda reminds me of Derek Anderson of the Browns. He looks very calm in the pocket. Has the arm to throw all the passes. Clemens need to get his act together. His receivers didn't help him out in the last game, dropping all those catches on 3rd down.

True on both accounts. Even with the WR drops it just seems to me that ClemeNS ;) is not very comfortable in the pocket and sometimes can hang on to the ball for too long. But yes, the drops were pretty bad, and killed 2 drives for him.

Ratliff on the other hand has looked like a true pro back there, but yes, I know, only 2 pre-season games vs backups, its certainly too early to get too excited.

Don't be surprised to see Favre, then Ratliff, then Ainge this weekend. If Ainge shows even a flash, Clemens will hit the waiver wire before the last preseason game.

They will try to groom him until his contract expires. If he shows signs of improvement from here on out, he can be given a backup job under maybe Ratliff after Favre.

I still think another QB needs to be drafted if Ratliff cannot reach the starter threshold.

Maybe Clemmens is a prick and his receivers are conspiring against him...or maybe there conspiring against him cuz he sucks....or maybe he just sucks and throws a ball only catchable by the other team.... Clemmens for long snapper in 09'

Yeah I'm gonna do that, I was pissed cause for some reason the games aren't on my TIVO and my TIVO is supposed to record everything associated with the Jets. But anyway, from what everyone is saying it sounds like Clemens has been disappointing. Clemens didn't impress me at all last year. He never seemed to just go through his progressions in the pocket. He would look at one receiver, maybe two, and then just put his head down and try to run. I understand the offensive line sucked, but you still gotta go through your progressions and then at least dump it off to a back or whoever else the play calls for rather than putting your head down and trying to run then getting sacked. He also never seemed to read the defense, then audible to a better play. He just ran what was called no matter what defense he saw. Who knows maybe he can turn it around. But I'll be looking forward to watching real football from now on, American Football. Those European bastards love soccer, it was driving me crazy. Thanks for the feedback guys.

My guess is he throws a ball without a lot of touch and it's hard to catch. There's more to playing the position than just rifling the ball everywhere. The same guys were catching the ball when Favre or Ratliff were throwing it.

Then why does Clemens need to get his act together when receivers are dropping his passes.

problem with ratliff is he plays with the 3rd team offense against 3rd team defenses (has he even played a down with the first team?)

ratliff had benefited greatly from this. many of his successful (and mich written about) pass plays are BADLY telegraphed and would have been intercepted by a first team defense.

its like he's scrimmaging against a local pop-warner team throwing 70 yard bombs, racking up huge yards, so everyone thinks he's actually challenging clemens for the 2 spot. nothing could be further from the truth.

problem with getting ratty first team reps to find out if he's for real is favre needs 'all he can get', so ratty will not dress for games and take the 3rd slot with ainge cut or placed on the ps, where he will be snatched up without compensation.

MY OPINIION: ratty is being showcased, written about, and chatted up by mangini in hopes of trading him (vs cutting ainge) for a 3rd/4th round draft pic, not unlike miller (db).

sorry if i upset the ratty nation.

    edit: spelling
