Fat Mark should learn something from Erik Boland's TC report yesterday:

Of course Can'O'Lardo is too busy feeling entitled due to Herm Edwards' easy-train to sportswriting... take your opinion and shove it up your ass, MC. You report the news, not your meanderings. Save that for your pathetic exclusive JI content.

FAVRE & COLES TALK THE TALK

Laveranues Coles still is not speaking to reporters, an unfortunate adolescent act of sulking over his hurt feelings about the Jets New York Jets ' sudden release of close friend Chad Pennington Chad Pennington when Brett Favre was acquired.

But Coles is speaking to Favre, and that's of most importance as Favre works overtime to learn the Jet offensive system and the nuances of his new receivers, including Coles.

Favre, in fact, had a conversation with Coles yesterday during which he paid him a pretty high compliment.

"I talked with him in the locker room and said he's a lot like [Packer WR Donald] Driver, and I mean that with the highest compliments," Favre said.

"I've seen a lot of guys come and go who had tremendous speed, who could jump high, who could bench press more than anyone in the locker room but couldn't play football.

"When it's all said and done, that's the most important thing. Can you play? Obviously, Laveranues has had a great career up to this point, and I don't see any reason why, barring some freak injury, he doesn't have a wonderful five more years or however long he wants to play.

"I think his playmaking ability and yards after the catch ability is a lot like Driver, along with his experience."

Driver was Favre's go-to man in Green Bay, catching 84, 86, 92 and 82 passes the last four seasons and averaging more than 1,200 yards per year, catching 24 TDs during that span.

Favre went on to say that, in meetings when some players might not understand the big picture regarding why certain plays are installed and called, Coles "gets it right away."

What Coles isn't getting at the moment is a lot of practice playing time, because he's been sidelined with a leg injury that has kept him out of the first two preseason games and limited him in practice.

Coles was limited in practice yesterday, not participating in any 11-on-11 drills.

The injury isn't believed to be serious, but coach Eric Mangini is being cautious.

Asked about the importance of getting Coles back onto the field for Saturday's preseason game against the Giants so he and Favre can have some game action together, Mangini said, "The important thing is to get Laveranues ready for the regular season. No you can be a little more cautious than you may be in the regular season. You have a little more time.

"But they've gotten some drill work in."

Mangini said of Coles that keeping him out is more "precautionary and making sure we're really over the hump before we move too quickly" and play him too soon.

"We want him at 100 percent," Favre said. "Obviously, he didn't do a lot [yesterday]. We just talked through some things. Having him out there talking through things and having his experience can't do anything but help us.

"I can't wait to get him back, [but] I'm sure Eric doesn't want to put him on the field until he's 100 percent. It makes no sense."

Actually, Erik Boland took over for Tom Rock at Newsday, he's decent. Can'O'Tardo is the Jets beat for the Post.

I really fail to see any point in this thread. They both said the same thing. Coles isn't speaking to the press but is speaking to Favre. What is at issue here?

Your reading comprehension? I thought I made it pretty clear and even bolded the highlights of my point.

You didn't. You just groused at the way each chose to word it. If you are really a Jet fan then get used to it because that is the norm and always has been.

Um. Don. Writers make their name by how they choose their words. That's why they call them WRITERS.

I wouldn't want to talk to some dickhead that's going to write shit like that about me either. In fact, if I were Coles I would never give this guy an interview again.

I'm just curious, but can you guys read "bolded" print? It seems like you're missing Byz's point completely.

seriously, how is it difficult to see the differences in what was written by the 2 different reporters? and he did even bold it for you.... or maybe its the feelings of anger that you also have that coles is mad about something and you think he is a jerk because of it? yeah thats probably it... after all that is the norm around here.

i agree wholeheartedly abyz boland did a great job of reporting the fact and talking about how much it really didnt matter. cannizaro reported the facts and then added in his anger and feeling of betrayal by coles in his opinion of what he thinks about coles.

but then again with the replies to this thread it shows that there are many out there that would rather the douchebag column rather than the good one.

Sounds like the 60's and the Maris/Mantle home run race.

The media controls this city when it comes to sports whether you like it or not.

You guys defending Coles are probably the same people that bashed him when he left us and would bash him again if we let him go. Coles is acting like a jerk, it doens't matter to us as all I care about is that he is ready to play but he's acting like a jerk. He is so upset over losing Chad that he cannot talk to reporters but was he this upset in '03 when he left Chad for a few bucks more to go to DC? I just hope he takes that anger out on the field b/c that's when he plays his best.

It was already intersting. What is the point of this thread at all? I asked that to begin with. One guy doesn't like Coles all that much and the other guy does. That is obvious in their writing on this story. So fuc*king what? If you are waiting for every writer in the world to start loving the Jets then all I can say is stop holding your breath. They never have and believe me when I say they never will. Get used to it.
