The defender can hit the receiver after he catches the ball (of course), and if the receiver doesn't land with both feet inbounds, it's an incomplete pass. The only exception is that the defender can't carry or throw the receiver out of bounds.
It takes away a lot of the perimeter stuff around the goal line. Our famous fade pass is pretty much a thing of the past IMO. Jump balls in the back of the end zone will be tough too. I don't see it having a huge effect between the 20's as far as play calling goes because defenders still have to cover the entire field. It solves the problem of the refs having to make a tough call on whether or not something was a push out, but I think the better way to solve it would have been to make push outs reviewable. :finssuck:
Yeah, the push out rule basically disappeared and I'm really not sure why. I think it probably had more to do with the fact that the side judges never knew when to call it and when not to than anything else. It never seemed to be applied evenly.
I don?t think it?s as big a deal as everyone makes it. The Offense got a lot of ruleschanges going their way the last few years, now the Defense got a little thing, not a big deal.
wow horrible rule change. this game is going to be unrecognizable soon. and im a young one bitching about this already lol
