1. The Jets are going to be much more fun to watch than in recent history. No DUH! 2. Damien Woody looked pretty damn good at RT to me both run and pass blocking. Leon Washington missed his assignment on the Favre sack. 3. D'Brick looked a little better at pass blocking, but still run blocks like a girl playing patty-cake. He does a half shove instead of burying the guy and his guy always gets back into the play. I want him to kill his guy! 4. Faneca is worrying me a little when he blocks someone one on one. Saw him get knocked back a couple of times. 5. Kris Jenkins is gonna be awesome!!!! Wanna see the DL when Ellis is back. 6. Pace is gonna be a stud. Pretty fluid for a big guy. 7. If Justin Miller win the CB#2 spot, we're dead. 8. Eric Smith looking good at covering our CB mistakes. 9. We played a lot of 2-TE formations when Favre was in the game. What did you guys notice?
I noticed we gave up a lot of rushing yards. I noticed that Keller keeps looking like our best first round draft pick this year.
I liked Eric Smith. Justin Miller is not a starting NFL CB. Keller looks like a wise choice was made in the draft. I'm curious to see when Ellis is in there with Jenkins, too. Remember, Ellis has never missed a game due to injury since he's been a Jet. As far as what you seen from Faneca, I'll write it off to a first pre-season game, and also that the Redskins have a damn good pass rush. I think Damien Woody and D'Brick will be fine at opposite tackles. Favre gets rid of the ball so quick, even when the pocket collapses he makes lemonade out of lemons. This looks like at least a ten win team, and assuming the Bills and Dolphins do not improve drastically, the Jets should squeeze out a wildcard slot in the playoffs. And then with Favre, anything can happen.
I was very happy with the first team Oline. Very happy. They need to have their act together. I still have nightmares about quarterbacks going down for the season in the first half (of the first game.) I saw multiple O lineups while Favre was in. A number of 2TE sets but they went 4 wide a couple of times as well. Was nice to see him get reps with different setups. He's going to be doing this for real soon. Plus we have alot of TEs and WRs that need exposure in real game situations.
Gholston is getting more comfortable in the defense. He's no where near ready, but he is learning where to go. Once he knows the playbook and can go on instinct, he'll dominate. Chris Samuels is not going to let him by, he's a near HOF LT. Gholston got held by Samuels on the big run play, but Chris knows how to do it so he doesn't get called for it. By week 10 Gholston could start, just like harris did. Marques Murrell wants to make this team, and he will if he continues with that motor he has. Really hard worker. Finally seeing Marcus Henry getting thrown to makes me wonder if he should stay around for red zone purposes. The kid seems to have good hands. I'd like to see him on the PS at the very least. I did see one running play where he didn't block his guy - got me really pissed. Lowery, if not playing the #2 CB spot come week 1, should return all punts. He always makes the 1st 2 guys miss completely. Who said he was slow???? Ratliff will stare down a receiver if he truly thinks that he is going to be open when the route is completed. He looks off the initial read if he knows "nope, he's covered" off the snap. But he did stare at read #1 usually after the play action, which he does pretty well. Non - Play Actions, he does look off his initial read. He will go towards the #2 route or look off the primary at first and then go back to them. He reads defenses very well, regardless of who is out there defending him. The kid needs one more year to develop, then I think he'll be ready. He will need to learn the very finite points of his position, and then his era could begin. Its exciting to think the Jets have a kid who could take over when Favre leaves. As long as the O-Line is what it should be, a giver of time. Dustin Keller is what I expected him to be. Wait till year 3 when you can buy the Hawaii version of his jersey.
