The owner of Scott Wright has a OUTSTANDING history of predicting the draft. I have looked up his past mock drafts dating all the way back to 2000 and the guy hit the nail on the head ALOT... http://www.nfldraftcountdown.com/sub/mockdraft.html He has the New York Jets taking D'Brickashaw Ferguson at 4 and Bobby Carpenter at 29. In the end IMHO, this will be the selection. Mario Williams will probably be selected by the Saints at 2. D'Brickashaw would be the BPA at 4 and it is a huge position of need. Has a good head on his shoulders, excels in pass protection, likes to play the game, confident and has the chance to be a top LT. The Jets would be THRILLED if a talented pass rushing OLB fell to 29! Bobby would be a perfect into the Mangini defense and we would be lucky to have him... In round 2 he has us taking Nick Mangold whom I don't see falling past New Orleans second rounder as they just lost their center to Free agency...otherwise I love, love, love the 4 and 29 picks... Alot would argue I shouldn't have posted this, but considering this guys excellent predictions from the past, I thought it was worth bringing up...enjoy!
I know White had a terrible pro-day, but I'd still be pissed if he was there at 29 and we didn't take him, especially with our need at RB.
RB should and probably will be addressed next season. I know alot of you want a playmaker this year, but we need to see what we have in Cedric Houston. We also need to address the Oline. Also I don't think it makes much sense to have to big backs like Cedric and White on the same team... Also, this is just my opinion, but I think Bobby Carpenter is going to be one hell of a football player...I prefer him over White...
Yeah, but do you actually think that will happen? I don't see how the Saints could pass on him after just losing their center to Free agency... If we somehow did draft D'brick, Carpenter AND Mangold I might wet myself at the draft...
Believe me Ferg is not a bad pick and i love Carpenter at 29 but i cant believe the Saints will pass up on Ferg.
Haha...I feel the same way about Mario Williams...I can't believe the Saints will pass up on Williams...
Any draft in which we end up with both Nick Mangold AND Bobby Carpenter....is a good draft. Although I might take White over Carpenter and pick up Daryll Tapp in the 3rd...
Picks rotate, but I have no idea what the formula is. I loved every pick they had us getting, Ferguson, Carpenter and Mangold, but thought CB at the end of the 3rd wasn't exactly what we are looking for. I would guess DT. Maybe he was the BPA, I don't know much past the first 50 players available.
Na. There is excellent RB depth in the draft this year. The last thing the Jets need to do is draft a guy with his lousy attitude. There should be a couple excellent OL prospects available at #29 that will give excellent value for the pick, and I would rather they went that route.
considering they have Grant and Smith, I don't know why they would draft Williams when they have other pressing needs. if anything, trade down. don't get me wrong, Williams is a beast - in fact, i want him at #4 - but you have to think the Saints will try to address their most pressing needs, not upgrade over two former R1 picks. cheers
There's good RB depth, but if we don't get Bush/Williams/White/Maroney and MAYBE Addai, I don't think any of the RBs are better than what we have so we might as well platoon Curtis, Houston, and Blaylock. I believe that our offense badly needs PLAYMAKERS, that's why I'm pro-White. He can come in an contribute and make plays. I still prefer Williams to him, but I think he'd be a steal at 29. I actually like the O-Line depth that will be available in rounds 2 and 3. I know everyone wants Mangold at 29 but if we're going to get a center I think Eslinger in the 3rd would be better value than Mangold in the first. There are a lot of very good tackles we could get in round 2 if we go for skill-position players in the first round. McNeil, Winston, Scott--at least one of those guys should be there, to go with Davin Joseph or Chris Chester at guard and we could move Kendall to C, and there are OL-men like Ryan O'Callaghan who would be great pickups in round 3.
If we trade down from 4, i wouldnt be surprised if it was for a low/mid-round pick this year (or two), and next years first to put us in position to trade up.
I wouldn't mind bringing in a RB, but going into 2006 with Martin/Blaylock/Houston would not be the worst thing in the world.
Did anyone see Leberfield's chat with Kiper? Kiper said that Ferguson was a BELOW average run blocker. Although I often don't agree with Kiper, he's spot on with that statement of fact. Yes, Ferguson is the best pass blocking tackle in the draft, but his abilty to handle big bull rushing DE's has also been questioned. I just don't think Ferguson is worth a top five pick. End of top ten, yeah.... not top five. I think the thing that keeps him so high is his rep and character, which cannot be questioned. He's a really good kid. Personally, I'd rather get a RT, a bit later in the draft. I want the running game re-established, and Ferguson, point blank, is not going to help the running game for the Jets. Moving Jones back to RT won't help that either.
very good point. i've never questioned Brick's pass-blocking ability, but all the while i've said that he isn't worth spending the #4 pick on, mainly because he's not an overall dominant OT. with Jones at LT, we can add someone like Marcus McNeil (or Scott) at RT, along with a big RG or C, and solidify the running game. then next year, one more stud OL will put our OL over the top. cheers
I absolutely love Ferguson / Carpenter / Mangold / O'Callaghan for the Jets. I know that everybody here hated D'Brickashaw but this draft would shore up our offensive line for years to come.
