Come on, it's not like he went 2-6 for 19 yards (Eli Manning). He was 4 of 6 for 31 yards. It wasn't a really, really bad performance.

I think the telling events, that we can see, will be the third and fourth preseason games. Clemens figures to get a lot of playing time in the third, and Ratliff in the fourth. If Clemens looks bad while Ratliff looks good it could happen. It will also depend how they both look for the remainder of training camp.

Also, I think the beginning of the season could see this happen. If Favre isn't ready to go until week 3 or 4 (still learning the offense) then I could see Clemens losing his spot to Ratliff if he comes out and stinks up the joint. If he bombs against Miami and New England, you could see him benched for a week or two in favor of Ratliff (until Favre is ready to play).

i think its a little more than 1 preseason game. from reports that i have heard clemens has been very up and down, actually mostly down until the end of last week in his competition with chad.

then on the other hand i have read a number of very good reports on ratliff, so you can say one preseason game but its probably more of the entire preseason. it will be interesting to see how reps go in practice and the next 2 preseason games between the 2.

now while ratliff may be the better playing clemens may still get the nod at #2 simply because of experience, or lack there of in ratliff.

lets just hope favre doesnt get hurt :)

Didn't Clemens play as well in preseason last year as Ratliff played Thursday night? See how much preseason matters? Give it a rest and let's play the season. The bigger issue is going to be whether to keep Ratliff or Ainge.

    wow...what are you guys smoking...

First of all, Ratliff was in against BACK-ups and if you watch the plays again...clowney had to wait for the ball both times, the first the defender almost caught him because he had to stop and wait...Put Ratliff in against the Baltimore defense and see how he does...oh wait...you guys forget aobut that game huh?...they said fuck the playbook and let Clemens go in the fourth quarter and he dominated one of the leagues best defenses...if it wasnt for dropped balls we could have won they game and should have tied the damn thing...

Bottom line, Kellen has ALOT of potential and playing behind a QB who he is more simliar to will help him...he is going to be great...he has what Chad tought him and now what Brett tought him...its up to him...

I really didnt see anything from Clemens that would say that he is losing his job, as a backup, to Ratliff. Ratliff had a good game yes, but he was in for much longer than Clemens was the other night. I for one thought Clemens looked pretty good out there. He showed patients in the pocket on one play and made a nice completion, to cotchery i believe.

He did try to force one in to Cotchery on one play which he def should know better and could have just thrown the ball away.

This kid still has potential i dont see why we are going to suddenly cut or trade the guy for someone who hasnt even seen the field in some regular season action against a #1 unit.

We need to see more of Ratliff but it's entirely possible. Clemens competed a few passes anyone could throw and his footwork cost us a posession on a 4th and 1. He needs to step it up and don't be surprised if we see a lot more of Ratliff this pre-season.

This is Ratliff's 2nd year in the offense and all reports have high praise for him, while many reports say Kellen had no shot to beat Chad and was not only inconsistent but made many bad throws and interceptions.

I never heard one bad thing about Ratliff among all the reports of training camp.

Also, no way will we let Ainge go, and trying to get him on our practice squad would almost be impossible.

I still say make the hard decision and cut Kellen. Save the money and get some Safety depth.

If the orgaization thinks this way, they better make a move to start grooming him. That means Clemens has to go.
Favre's only got this year, next tops, at being on our roster.we've got to start moving towards the future, and the future is NOT Kellen Clemens!

In your dreams Bosko...Clemens will probably never have that many points in a game.

C'mon guys, its just ONE PRESEASON GAME we are talking about and we are acting like as if its a six year career or something. Ratliff did look good but one preseason game does not qualify him to be a starter.

Tony Romo threw 5 ints in one game last yr against the Bills. I don't remember the Cowboys cutting him for that many mistakes in a game. Hell he won the game. If he wins 10 games like that, he'll be throwing 50+ ints in a season. Fact is, one game will never tell you what one has.

STOP with the Kellen bashing! The guy started the game with two great passes. he went out early like most of the starters! You say he looked bad. Ok, what did he do wrong?

Be happy that RATLIFF looked great. he played against second and third string players. Everyone is entitled to their opinion but lets be honest in our evaluations of our players. There is no need to pit one QB against another! That is totally ridiculous!

He'll be the #2, and Rattliff will be cut, regardless of how they perform this preseason. Sad but true.

Thank you for your valuable insight! Your qualifications to be GM of the Jets is truly wonderful. I know that you and FAVRE went to dinner last night and he told you that he was playing "only one more season". Heck, didn't he tell you that he has already retired once and came back? If he did it once , he could do it again! Please share your crystal ball with all us Jets fans where CLEMENS is concerned. More level-headed Jets fans are willing to give Kellen a chance to show his talent in a game or two!
