Alright guys, I woke up as happy and excited as anybody, but for all of us who have been used to watching Checkdown Chad the last 6 or so years, things are going to change. I hope most of you can understand that different is not necessarily worse. A few points. #1) There are going to be some STUPID boneheaded, "Why the f*ck did he do that?!" moments with Favre aboard. He is the polar opposite of Pennington, as he WILL try to force a ball into triple coverage down field, when the checkdown is wide open. Sometimes he'll squeeze it in. Usually he won't. Get used to it. High risk, high reward. #2) Along the same lines, expect a few more dropped passes (and broken fingers) by our WRs. I really think this move will make a HUGE difference in the competition for the #3 WR spot. Now in TC and Preseason games, both QBs will be throwing rockets, and the WRs will have to adjust, and see who REALLY has the surest hands. #3) Still along the same lines. We are PROBABLY going to see more INTs than most of you have been used to (since most people seem to be in denial that Chad has thrown way too many INTs for such a conservative QB the last few years)... Remember, this guy holds ALL the career records, including INTs. He's going to throw the ball around, and he's going to make some mistakes. Again, high risk, high reward. #4) This one's a little more positive. Now, finally, for the first time since '02, when we are trailing late in a game, we are going to feel CONFIDENT! We should see way fewer draws and checkdowns in the 2 minute drill, and much more completions down the field. This is a fantastic change of pace for this team, and something we've really been missing since '02. #5) For all of the times we've complained about lack of coverage, well Jet fans, here it is. We're going to be all over ESPN every single day from now until February, and probably beyond, depending on how fast Brett decides whether or not he's retiring. Some of the press will be good, some will be bad, but we'll be exposed. There's no more 'flying under the radar' or sneaking up on the league for the Jets. One last point I want to make, which I'm sure has been made everywhere by everyone... I have been very critical of this FO, but the deal for Favre was very, very good. Basing the stipulations of the deal on not only Favre's playing time, but also the team's success is a great way of getting more bang for your buck. This way, if some guys along the OL and D go down, and we go 4-12 despite Favre playing every snap, we keep our #1 pick going into next year. Kudos to the FO on this one... NOW I'm excited for football season
QB was a position of obvious need, and they just upgraded it without mortgaging the future. WOO HOO! :jets:
We were going to be a WC contender and win around 9-10 games w/ Brett so this trade only becomes successful w/ a deep run in January. I hope fans are prepared, we'll be more exciting no question about that but w/ excitement comes bad turnovers which is a Brett specialty so be preapred. hopefully he has more good than bad days but there will be those games where he throws 2-3-4 ints. Hopefully this works out, I hope we are giving GB a 1st rd pick next April.
I dont know about that...I think the jets were going to be about 6-10, and just became a potential 10-6 team with this deal.
We won 4 games w/ no OL a year ago, now we upgraded the OL and will have a running game plus the D is looking pretty good as they improved their and the D played very well the 2nd half of last year. Remember we won 10 games just 2 years ago, it's not like we have been bad for 5-6 years. We were going to win somewhere around 9 games this year w/o him, he better get us to more than 10 wins for it to be worth it.
Toss out the two wins against the woeful Lolphins and the Jets only won two games last year. The offense looked terrible at tc when I went earlier in the week. This is a major upgrade at the QB position, and that is the bottom line imo.
Very insightful, well said, and very true. I definitely prefer the game losing interception that happens when we're taking a chance to win the game over the interception that happens when we're checking down and throwing at the sidelines with time expiring. It will be a welcomed, and very dramatic change of pace for the Jets. Nice post.
How many times were we up by 3 or 7 and gave the ball back because we couldn't get a first down. At least now we have a chance to keep the ball, no more 3 and out!!!
Wow! Exciting stuff! I wish you guys well. I don't see it going well but it will be one hell of a circus. Faneca may get Favre killed! The media circus and locker room circus may be too much for even NY to handle! How long will the fans love Brett if it turns out that last year was an anomaly? I will be watching the circus and wishing you well...........Just beat the Patriots!
The Jets won 4 games last year 4. We had a QB competition because we didn't have a starting QB on the team. We got lucky as hell that Favre dropped in our laps. We have revamped our D into hopefully an intimidating attacking D and now we have the potential to have an intimidating attacking O. This is the type of team win or lose we all dreamed of since 98. We are no longer a finesse team we are an attack bad boy to deal with on both sides of the ball. I expect ups and downs but I expect at the very least that we are going to play very exciting football. It may not translate into a SB with Favre who I expect to play for us for a year or two, but it is a huge transition for this franchise to be able to go out an punch people in the mouth on both sides of the ball, attack the entire field. The NY Jets aren't getting pushed around anymore becuase we are unarmed or undermaned.
When was the last time you turned on the last meaningful football game of the season and had a serious rooting interest? For me it's 40 years.
Which equates to the 30th or 31st pick in the draft depending on if New England puts their camera away; what's the big deal?
Well said; I rooted for Todd. I rooted for Kenny O. I rooted for Vinny. I rooted for Chad. I will root for Favre, but there will be a certain Rush that will go along with each success that i defintiely have not experienced in 40 years.
As far as #1 goes, that's true, but if he does throw a boneheaded pick or something, we can at least be pretty sure that the pick will occur 45 yards down the field and not 5 yards from the line of scrimmage and go the other way for 6. As far as dropped passes go, he had better start zingin' that thing as soon as he gets to practice becaue these guys need to learn to hang onto it. Kellen prob throws hard too, but I doubt it's this hard.
Last year wasn't what Chad was all about, last year was an aberration. NO QB could have won w/ the OL we had and it took the D half the year to look good and let's not forget that we lost double digit leads in more than a couple of games- that's on the D not the QB. People forget we have been an every other year team since 2002. 2 years ago we won 10 games and made the playoffs, we were going top be close to that(if not at 10 wins) regardless of the Favre move.
