This is lunacy. What's the value in a first-round pick? You get a guy who can (at least in theory) really help you win. If the Jets make it to the next Super Bowl, then they spent their first-round pick on a guy who REALLY HELPED THEM WIN. Of course it's a good deal!
What's the point of worrying about making the super bowl but not winning? If this team makes the SB, they're winning. I refuse to believe anything else is even possible. I don't care if they're playing the freaking 85 Bears.
As much as I'd love to see the Jets play in a superbowl I wish they would have made the condition "win the superbowl" instead of make it to the superbowl. Losing the superbowl would leave a real empty feeling and we'd still lose a first round pick. I love this deal, but agree with you on this point.
no 1st rounder can replace a trip to the super bowl and like what green hurricane said if the jets make the super bowl there gonna win it!
Seriously? I'm 30 years old, and I've only seen the Jets sniff the Super Bowl in 1998. I was 4 in 1982. I want to be able to enjoy the ridiculous two-week hype machine at least once. Hell after 4-12 last year and seeing a Patriots-Giants Super Bowl losing the SB would be a massive step up just from last season.
This is exactly what I'm thinking. Beating those top teams in the afc just to make it to the SB would be something. The build up for the game would be awesome. I dont see how you can complain.
Making it to the SB and losing (as long as it's competitive) has value in itself for the franchise besides fan excitement. Signing FA's becomes easier/cheaper. The CS/FO gets serious credibility that impacts their abilities to have players buy into the system. Our franchise is badly in need of some 'aura' - even losing in the SB would help with that. Anyone who feels that a team making the SB and losing is in the same position as the other 30 teams is a classic example of "same'ol jets(fan)".
