Just give the Panthers whatever fictional compensation we were offering the Packers

An elite WR is a need, but maybe not as great as last year. A healthy Coles and Stuckey, some fresh kids showing TC promise, and Dustin Keller hopefully in the Marques Colston hybrid role. But it wouldn't hurt, if you believe we have a shot at doing anything this season to have that extra piece to the puzzle.

    *Steve Smith's phone rings*

    Steve: "Hello?"

Tannenbaum: "Hello Steve, this is Mike Tannenbaum...the GM from the New York Jets. How are you?"

Steve: "I've seen better days...what can i do for you?"

Tannenbaum: "the Jets are interested in trading for your services....interested?"

    Steve: "Who's your starting QB?"

    Tannenbaum: "ummm..Chad Pennington"

    *click....dial tone"

This will not happen in a million years.

Smith is the only one mentioned as being on the table. What's the point?

I'd swap Smith for Coles... Basically headcase for headcase... but it'll never happen.

    A 5'9 WR who plays like he's 6'3.

I'd love to have him, and with him on a new team, he would be quiet IMO...Doubt anything happens though, Carolina needs him bad.

We have plenty of toughness. Cotch and Coles are the epitomy of toughness... That's why we'd never pursue him without getting rid of one of our own. What our WR corps is missing is a tall wideout with breakaway speed.

He would be worth a 2nd and be a true No1 receiver.

it would work out if we traded coles for him, but you know what? i like coles and i think he is going to have a monster season, so fuck it. unless a tall elite wr becomes available(andre, roy, larry) i'm off it

He would be a great asset, if they had a QB who could put the ball in his hands in stride.

Tannenbaum calls back : " You do know you've been working with Jake Delhomme all these years..."

Smith: "Good point... maybe we can work out a deal..."

I would trade for Steve Smith in a minute. Spare me the retarded height jibes, he is in a class with guys like Hines Ward and Marvin Harrison in terms of being an elite receiver without having elite size.

The headcase argument could stand, although this is the first incident I can remember hearing from Smith. That is stuff for the FO/CS to worry about. Talent-wise, this is a no-brainer and anyone arguing against his talent has no idea what they are talking about.

    I admire your enthusiasm

but it's not gonna happen....so there's no use even speculating about it.

I like Steve Smith, and I would give my left nut to have him catching passes for the Jets.....but let's be realistic about this, guys.

    I'd pass.

Guy has serious anger management issues.

No argument on how good a player he is. If the rumor is true tho, I gotta believe the guy is a real headcase. For a team that has no offense weapons to consider trading him to me means they've had enough of the guy.

Steve Smith has been one of my favorite WRs for years
i would defintely trade a first rounder or coles for him
but he is too good for the panthers to give up besides all his problems
