Holmes - Calvin has yet to show he's going to do anything on the Pro level, where as Santonio has had flashes, not to mention Santonio has a much better QB throwing to him and he will get increased reps as Hines Ward gets older...
gotta agree with the majority...it has to be Holmes. A couple reasons: 1) Jon Kitna is throwing to Johnson. I don't care what anybody says...he's garbage. 2) Marinelli has a renewed committment to the run game. Plus, Mad Mike is gonzo. 3) Holmes is the Steelers best deep threat. Ward is more of the slot guy now. 4) Roy Williams will be getting just as many if not more balls thrown to him. 5) Johnson is fighting back problems. Apparently they're keeping a close eye on him during TC.
Even though I'm behind Holmes on this one, I want to point out that at some point Kitna will be replaced by Drew Stanton, and I bet Stanton will be pretty good.
First of all, Kitna's not terrible. I'm not going to say he's good, but he's not terrible. You also have to look at this from a pure fantasy standpoint, which is what this is all about. Even with Martz gone, Kitna is going to throw for a lot of yards. The Lions are going to be trailing in plenty of games, which will cause them to put the ball in the air in the 4th quarter.
I have a basic rule when it comes to fantasy football. If I'm deciding between two players and Player A is coming off a solid year fantasy-wise and Player B is a guy with lots of hype who has yet to put together a good fantasy season, I'll take Player A every time.
I think also besides the steelers having a much better qb they also have more of a complete offense with potentially an amazing running game so teams have to look for both dimensions
I went against that thinking in the 10th round of my fantasy baseball league and ended up with Josh Hamilton.
And I'll likely beat you. In my money league last year I went up against a lot of people from your school of thought. Braylon Edwards and Wes Welker helped me win $400. You see what I'm sayin'? In the only other time I had something on the line (Asbury Park Press league in 2005), I drafted Larry Johnson 66th overall in 2005! knowing he was going to start the season as the backup. I won that league because of Johnson and got a write-up in the sports section.
Tough choice...better QB is Big Ben, but I generally draft talent over situation every time. So in the end, Calvin.
