Will we carry 4 TE?s on this roster? Keller, Franks, Baker and Pociack ? who apparently is having a great training camp so far. With Tony Richardson being the primary FB where does Pociack fit in? I don?t see us keeping 4 TE?s on the roster but which one gets let loose?
I say none we have better players at TE overall then WR I could see us using Keller and Franks as a 3rd WR in certain sets.
Franks' slow ass better not line up in the slot... Keller will be used all over the place though, because he has something Franks doesn't have: versatility.
Keller - Slot and passing downs Franks - Blocker + Goal Line Baker - Passing downs + Goal Line Pociack - Blocker My take anyways.
I just hope they don't try to sneak by with one fewer OL in order to keep four TEs. Or, for that matter, 6 WRs. I like this depth, but I'm not sure how it will play out. Frankly, I think Baker and Franks are competing for one spot - either that or Baker will in fact be traded.
If I remember correctly, Franks was primarily signed to be a blocking backup to Baker. Keller still has a lot to learn about blocking, so this season I really see Keller just coming in on Passing Downs or in the slot, then Baker taking most of the sets with Franks coming in for power blocking. At the very least, Franks will be a good blocking mentor for Keller. Pociack is having a good TC, but not sure where he's going to fit in.
Even though his role is technically as a longsnapper, I believe Dearth is listed in the depth chart as a TE. It would be surprising to carry 5 TE's on the roster, but I guess they each have their individual roles which are unique and complementary to each other.
If he is still eligible, Pociack is heading for the practice squad. Dearth might as well be listed as a LS. We'll have 3 TE's. With that said, I was thinking about our top 6 receiving threats. Coles, Cotch, Stuckey, Franks, Baker, and Keller. They all have great hands and complimentary skill sets. Whichever QB gets the job will never have lack of talent at receiver to use as an excuse for poor play.
We did exactly that last year, and now have much more Talent at the position, and with Keller not beeing a traditional TE. If Baker finally gets on the Field, Posiak keeps making noise and also shows the ability to leadblock from the FB position and Franks also proves his worth, i would not be surprised to see all of them on the roster. The competition about the spot is probably more between Posiak and Musa Smith for the backup FB and 4th TE/RB Position, than it is within the TE-Unit. Mangini likes versatility, TEs are versitle! And yeah, Dearth is listed as a TE, but he?s a LS only, they could also list him as a QB or NT.
I think we will keep all 4. We traded for Franks, Baker is apparently staying, we drafted Keller, and well, Schotty just loves his H-backs so I think Pociask is in.
I think Baker's on the hotseat, IMO. I think unless he gets to practice and impresses, we have other options.
Agreed. The Jets utilize 2 TEs often in multiple roles. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if they ran a formation with Baker and Franks lining up at TE and Keller as a wide out to create a size mismatch.
