year tender. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Raiders will have all their players present Thursday when they open training camp in Napa, Calif. It did not appear that way Tuesday evening, when cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha said he was strongly leaning toward staying away unless the team agreed not to use the "franchise" tag on him again next offseason. However, Asomugha said Wednesday evening that he has decided to report to camp and will sign his one-year, nearly $10 million contract. "I'm going to go in to camp focused and play the year out and see what happens," he said by text message. KIck some arse and take no prisoners.
I realize he probably went there chiefly for his football prowess, but you'd like to think if someone went to Berkeley they would have a good level of intelligence. I just wrote chiefly and Berkeley there. Hmm, I think Herman Edwards would like Asomugha. This should be Patrick Surtain's final season. Good chance Asomugha goes to Kansas City if the Raiders mess up.
MY rule is only bet on sure things. There is no way Al Davis lets one of the top CBs(In his prime) leave. Especially when his CB's are in man to man 98% of the time. This isn't a Charles Woodson situation (cb on wrong side of thirty) . Raiders probaly learned a lesson from franchising C Woodson twice. JMO I expect the Raiders to transition tag Asomugha (right to match) next year.(if they can't hammer out a long term contract) Basically let some team do all the dirty work and Raiders match the offer. See Tim Brown who signed a contract with the Broncos. ( a number of years ago)
Then you should bet that after this season the Raiders have the worst overall record in the NFL for the past 6 seasons.
NO like Jets won't be winning a championship anytime soon. Going on Forty Years. Even the Knicks have won a championship more recent than than that.(how sad is that)
Hey jeaux, what's the over-under on when you're going to high-tail it off this board in 2008? Is it 8 or 9 Raider losses? I think last year it was 8. 4-12 5-11 4-12 2-14 4-12
dude the raiders really painted themselves into a corner on this one. After giving that huge contract to Hall, Aso is going to want more than that. After the raiders gave all those huge contracts out in the offseason, i dont think they will be able to give him the money he is looking for.
If there is a new CBA, OAK is fucked since they'll be in cap hell and will have to unload all of the salary. The laughing stock of the NFL yet again.
Geez, you make it sound like they're the only team that threw a lot of money around this offseason. Hmm, can you think of any other teams that did that?...
Not necessarily. The Raider D is predicated on outstanding man to man corner play. For at least two years they will have the best tandem of man to man corners in the league. And perhaps longer if they can work out a deal with Asomugha next offseason, which is still a possibility. I'd rather have Hall and Asomugha franchised than Asomugha and Routt on the other corner. On an unrelated note, you have to love the guy showing up in time for conditioning drills on the first day of practice. Not a very "modern athlete" thing to do!
300+ Million as apposed to 140? I wouldn't attack them if it was under 200, but over 300? I have to question whats going on in Oakland.
Where are you getting those figures? How about a link? Guaranteed money is what counts, everything else is largely fluff. People were saying this gloom and doom stuff as far back as the Gruden days about the cap because they'd see Trace Armstrong sign a "$50 million" deal and figure the Raiders would be screwed in a few years. Never happened. The guaranteed money the Raiders shelled out this year is actually in the same ballpark as the Jets...
