    If they didnt lose their other first round draft pick for spying, who would the PATS have taken at 31? Granted it would have changed their draft strategy for later round picks, but who sticks out as a Belicheck target w/the 2nd to last pick of the 1st round?

    I'm stuck between 2 players;

    Kenny Phillips (S) U of Miami
    Chilo Rachal (G) USC

    They would have traded their pick for a 4th rounder and a 1st rounder in 2009

    I thought I remembered reading they were hot for Antione Cason, but since San Diego took him I would guess that they would have taken Brandon Flowers.

    Trading down for Quentin Groves is another possibility, I think Wilfork and Seymour might both be free agents next year.

    They would have packaged a deal to the Rams to get Chris Long.

    Or worse...Gholston.

    And if they took Gholston...well he wouldn't be the super risky pick people are painting him to be I bet...he'd be like the best thing since sliced bread or the fuckin wheel or fire or...iunno.

    He'd be projected as the DROY, and ESPN would have done 3 segments on him already. One about him missing OTAs due to Ohio State's rules. His one day holdout due to the contract getting approved, and his progress thus far in TC. Trey Wingo would then say something that sounds like he's blowing the Patriots new OLB and the Coaching Staff as well.

    Merling is the guy I was thinking about as well. BB loves to go DL. And Merling sitting for the beginning of the season would have been no problem.
