I heard about this earlier on WFAN, and it doesn't sound that bad or improbable. Ichiro regrets extending his contract with the Mariners, and wants out. The Yankees could use another productive bat and a fast outfielder, so I could see either a Damon-Ichiro or Melky-Ichiro trade.

    What do you guys think?

That would be awesome! Give them Matsui too so they can still have a japanese player to please the Japanese in Seattle!

The dollars would sky-rocket even more for the Yanks, not that it needs to.

I don't see this happening just because if the Mariners are going to trade Ichiro, it's going to be for prospects, not broken down, over the hill scraps. And it doesn't look like the Yankees are going to want to give up prospects. I just don't see it.

No offense, but are ya nuts? It will take much more than Johnny Damon or Melky Cabrera to acquire Ichiro.

As a Red Sox fan, I'd be thrilled to see the Yankees give up a ton of prospects for a player they don't really need.

Melky isn't washed up or old. We can give up Melky, Hughes/Kennedy, or another one of our prospects.

This won't happen...Ichiro is Seattle's franchise player...the Yanks would have to give up the farm.

They'd get a power bat like Holliday or Bay if they're going to give up a lot for an outfielder.

If the Yankees managed to get Ichiro for Melky straight-up, I would personally tongue kiss Brian Cashman. On the mouth.

The Yankees aren't getting Ichiro. That rumor was probably started by the same guy who started the Bonds rumor. Half Seattle's money comes from Japan because oif Ichiro and that is only the first reason why they aren't.

Not to mention, Ichiro's no 26 year-old rookie. Same age as Damon. Is he worth so much more? +/-$17 million through 2012, when you could probably keep Damon or Option B for much less?

the Mariners should jump at that deal.

If I were GM of Seattle and I could get anything good for Ichiro and get rid of most of the contract, I'd jump at it.

The huge contract they gave him was dumb, just like the Posada signing was dumb.

The Posada signing is look bad right now, I agree. The Yankees do need to make a move though with the injuries the team has.

My first thought is that there's no way that Seattle lets Ichiro go, unless they get about four or five decent prospects.

Then I remembered all the players that franchise has let leave over the years.

Yeah Seattle is going to give up the only reason people come to the ballpark in that city for the Melk Man. They should officially be retracted if that happened.

If the Mariners do trade Ichiro to the Yankees I would imagine that a guy like Cano, and probably some top flight prospects like Tabata would be dealt as well as Melky and a mid level prospect.

I love how Yankee fans think teams are just going to give up great players for mediocre mid level talent.

News flash: Not every team is the Phillies.......

    Rich...

I was actually considering giving up Brett Gardner AND Melky...

    Sounds fair to me.
