If Pennington wins the comp it's a wasted year with Favre we might actually do some damage this year. If Clemens was ready there wouldn't be a competition. The fact is Clemens isn't ready but he may beat out a crapy over paid Pennington which is the reason there is a QB competition on the Jets. If Clemens was ready there would be no competition he would be getting the work of the starter.

i agree with Winston but would like to add a point. Clemens is not at a point where his career is over if he doesn't win the starting job. he is at a point where his mind and abilities can still be molded by a verteren leader. Who better to teach a young QB than one of the best in the bussiness? I say toss them a 5th and make it happen, heck i would give a 4th, because we are likely to have at least 2 next year if not 3.

Thinking about the tampering charges, what if the Jets public statement was just a smokescreen to protect themselves of the all-important draft picks Minn. could possibly lose.
I think GB could use a veteran, experienced QB considering their depth chart is still wet behind the ears.

Goodell will probably punish Vikings for "tampering" more than he punished Pats for "cheating." It'll be his way of saying, go to lo$ angele$ already.

If we could pull off trading Chad Pennington and a 3rd for Brett Favre, it could easily be the biggest (and most lopsided) trade in Jets history. And we would have to look over our shoulders for blocks of cheese forever.

Hey Requiem, I agree with you. Penny cant do it and Kellen scares the heck out of me with his happy feet and failure to read defences. Granted we had no o-line last year, BUT if we have a shot at a QB like Bret Favre for even two years I would have to go for it and let a younger QB watch him and learn while we make further in the playoffs then the 1998/1999 team. Hell two years of truely having a shot to make it to the promise land before I die, YES i say get him.

there is no reason that the packers would make that deal.

That's two more years of Favre forgetting what uniform he's wearing!

Let me repost this incase it was missed. This was you earlier in the thread talking about Favre, and most statements were way off base and even wrong. But if you substitute a QB that we already have on the roster with "Favre" in this case, you get a pretty accurate assesment of the gloomy possibility of Kellen not stepping up.

One thing we can be sure of is that Pennington, in bad situations, makes horrible decisions that costs games for the team. We're talking about a QB who is well beyond the twilight of his career and had a pick fair caught by _______ every year. The guy used to be smart and did well with talent around him. This is a guy who took a very talented Jets team in 02 with a great OLine, great running game and good defense into the playoffs and lost in the playoffs, but for some reason is still skating by on that 6 year old season. Since then he has managed two seasons where his TD/INT ratio has been just 1 over the .500 mark. But we shouldn't try to bring Favre in...? He would not come here anyway but, to be so anti Favre when you have Pennington on your roster as a Jets fan is kind of puzzling, to me at least. Since we don't know exactly what kind of team we have yet I think it's best to leave Chad in a gutter somewhere.

You're missing a lot of points here. Consider the following:

    1. Pennington is a smart, stand up guy, you can't help but like. Favre is an asshole.

    2. Favre is a whiny, attention-craving brat. Look at me while I decide whether I'll grace you with my presense. I want to play. No I don't. Yes I do. No I don't. etc. etc. etc.

    3. Favre gave away a Jets record for crying out loud! He sat his ass down so his good golfing buddy Strahan could take the sack record. What a classless jerk. That record should have an asterick next to it.

    4. If he gets the starting role, Pennington will do much better with the revamped offensive line. He's smarter than Favre and almost every QB in existance would struggle with a crappy offensive line.

    5. And the major point. Favre will never ever play for the Jets. He wants to get on a team he believes has a shot at the Super Bowl. And despite the changes the Jets made I don't think he feels a 4-12 team fits the bill.

So basically screw Favre. He should keep his retired ass retired.

There are a lot of reasons Farve won't be a jet. This is the one first and foremost.

He doesn't want to be a Jet. It's hard for an outsider to look at the Jets and see then as being a QB away from the Super Bowl

I don't think Favre ever cared that it was a Jets record. If it was a Packers record he would not have done it. Any other team in the league and he would have done it.

It's not so much that it should have an asterisk next to it. It's more that Strahan should never have been credited with a sack in the first place.

There was to be a play fake to the left and Favre would roll out to the right to throw or run.
I don't recall Favre making any attempt to pass the ball. At that point, the game had been wrapped up by Green Bay and Favre was looking for Strahan to get the record.

The official scorekeeper was either a Strahan fan or a moron.
If the scorekeepers felt that Favre was going to throw the ball, they were within their right to call it a sack if Favre dove or slid to avoid receiving a big hit from Strahan.
However, those of us who saw the play and have even decent eyesight know that Favre had no intention of throwing the ball.

You see it all the time when a play like that get busted and the QB will just fall down to the ground. It just so happens it for the record. If you don't like Favre for that one thing even if they planned it u still can't take away what he as done over his career.

There's just no way the Packers want Pennington. They want Rodgers to get the ball this year. Whoever backs him up is going to have one clear bright and shining quality for them: he doesn't want the ball.

You find it puzzling that I would not want to give up a thrid round pick to obtain a quarterback who I feel will produce the same on the field as someone who is already on the roster?

In no way in my post was I commenting on whether or not I like Favre.

I was only making a comment on the play and how it should have been scored as a rushing attempt by Favre and a simple tackle by Strahan.

Getting Brett Favre would be the greatest thing the Jets could ever do. Last season, Penny choked so many times when the game was on the line, and Clemens was the worst qb in the league. This, while Favre had a great season. I would take the trade of Penny and a pick for Favre in a second. This is our chance to get a Hall of Fame qb and a team leader to replace of what we have now, a couple of horror stories -- not to mention the fanfare and media attention this will receive. I hope it happens, and I hope the Jets are working the phones as we speak.
