Posted on the team's site, newyorkjets.com....

"The New York Jets signed free agent TE A.J. Schable and waived OL Shawn McMackin. The announcement was made by Jets General Manager Mike Tannenbaum.

Schable (6-4, 273/South Dakota/Ida Grove, IA), originally signed in the offseason by the Philadelphia Eagles, began his NFL rookie campaign in 2006 with the Arizona Cardinals as a rookie free agent. He appeared in 11 games at defensive end and fullback and recorded 12 special teams tackles. In 2007, he attended training camp with Arizona before he was waived during the preseason. At South Dakota, he recorded 28 sacks, including 19 as a senior in 2005.

McMackin (6-3, 287/Hofstra/River Vale, NJ), who signed as an undrafted rookie free agent with the Jets on May 4, played guard and tackle at Hofstra University. He appeared in 31 games, starting a combined total of 19, at tackle and guard."

Looks like the young o-line prospect many on this site fell in love with is bye bye....

Sweet, a TE that has game time experience at DE and FB! Curious though, has he played any at TE?

Well, these multi-purpose players really reek of Bellichick strategy. That was one thing he did well. With all our TEs we better have some sick goal line packages.

I think that was the focus of the offseason, considering every time the Jets were in the Red Zone they kicked a FG or gave the ball up.
