The 2nd matchup of the year between the two teams will be replayed on Sunday, June 22nd at 4:00 PM. A game that wasn't terribly played by the Jets, which is saying something due to how the season went. If you forgot why you hated Justin McCareins, watch this game again. On a positive note, I do believe Brady got picked by Revis in this game. It was that awesome one handed grab and he landed spinning like a helicopter. Thats not easy to do.
If running out Brad Smith at QB for critical series while the outcome of the game was still in doubt didn't get Mangini fired, I think he's safe for this year. Pennington not so much.
I think they brought Smith in before Pennington after Clemens got hurt on his pick six. Pretty sure Chad came in on a 3rd and 18 and completed a deep out for a first down. Amazing, since he isn't supposed to be able to complete the deep out, and he did it in the bad weather to boot after sitting for six weeks.
We win this game if: 1) The OL holds up and doesnt let Clemens get killed 2) Our TE Chris Baker doesn't fumble in the redzone 3) Justin McCariens doesn't drop a RARE RARE RARE strike by Chad to the back of the endzone. 4) Nugent makes his field goal 5) Ben Graham doesn't get blocked 6) Mangini kicks a field goal instead of making Smith throw a pass on 4th down. So after the offseason, points 1, 2, and 3 have been covered. 4 and 5 are just bad luck/poor execution -- things that can be fixed overnight. 6 is something Mangini has struggled with as Jets coach. At times he has been too aggressive other times he takes the conservative route. It's bout time he finds the middle ground -- he's had this team for 2 years, he knows who is capable of what in different situations. Just because BB goes for it in those situations, doesnt make it smart for Mangini to do simply because he doesn't have the guys that excel in those situations. (e.g. Strong armed QB and Fast, Tall, OPEN recievers)
That's a good point. Part of hiring a young guy with no experience is that you're going to live with that the first year or two, but they hired him for his upside and to learn on the job. You're right, hopefully he evolves to the next step where he's got a better feel for who he has and what to do at what times. I think he will, he seems in control on the sidelines, never has that clueless look a lot of coaches have. Just a gut feeling, but that's what it seems like to me.
