If you guys are interested in who is available, LeCharles Bentley was asked to run about 20 forty yard gassers within specified times on the chance that if he didn't make it he would fail to make the team after two years rehab of a busted patella. He made all 20 gassers within the alloted time frames. So he's pronounced fit and ready to go. Today he asked the Browns to release him so he could catch on with a team that needs his services. And the Browns accommodated him. This is a guy we should take a hard look at. Center or Guard. Ready to play.
Depth is always welcome at the House of Tangini... Getting a guy like Bentley gives Callahan options with the line; he's not just stuck with the players that we have currently. Not that that's a bad thing...
I remember a couple years ago he was rated the number one free agent going into the off season on espn.com. This guy is a pro bowl caliber player. I'd love to see him on the Jets. Probably too much money though.
This guy is a top tier interior lineman if healthy. I'm trying to figure out why the Browns would release him... Bring him in for a physical to see what's really up!
i think the browns realized he came there with great intentions, he worked very hard and had a bad break 2 years in a row and they had found his replacement, probably at a cheaper price. he felt he could start and didnt want to be a backup, they didnt really need a big money backup center so he asked and they helped him out. things should work that way more often. everyone knew he wasnt going to start there and he wanted the opportunity, he was given that opportunity. granted im fairly confident that money probably played a big role in that release as well.
Good Depth can never hurt. Bentley was a pretty good center back in the day... Wouldnt mine signing him.
He'd be an improvement over Brandon Moore, but he's gonna ask for a decent amount of money. The Jets have Moore for cheap
He is a great guy, i'm a little suprised because he supposedly is a huge browns fan and always wanted to play there. But still, he is a very good center or guard.
Moore is a weak link IMO. I'd love to bring this guy in and compete for RG starting job assuming Bentley is healthy and can pass a physical.
Sign him up and make his contract rely on playing time incentives. If he gets hurt or doesn't start no big deal you just have a guy for good depth. If he can start and play well, he will get his money.
See who's interested in him for what. If he's unwilling to take a back-up role or wants to play center then it's not worth the time. If he's willing to move to a different position or play as depth then let's go for it. I doubt money is going to be an issue in signing a guy who's been out of football for two years and playing with a surgically repaired knee.
He does want to start. I bet we look at him and maybe talk a little but I think a team that would tell him he has the starting position at one point in the season will sign him. I'm not saying we couldn't but Moore did get an extension.
Would be great to see him come in do a bit of training to see where his health is at. Although like some people have said, i have a feeling that he is going to want a fair bit of money, and I'm not sure we have that to give. If we did get him and he was healthy it certainly would complete the O-Line transformation.
If this guy can pass a physical and really seems to good to go for the year......... Hello Bentley, goodbye Moore (back to the bench where he belongs)
