~ ~ ~ With the headache that Chris Baker?s ongoing contract squabble with Jets management is creating, it can be easy to overlook the strides that rookie TE Dustin Keller is making. Although everything that transpires in minicamp should be kept in perspective, it?s clear that Keller won?t be used as a traditional tight end. ?I am lining up in different places, running all kinds of different routes, whether it is a short option or a deep down-the-seam route,? Keller said. ?There are different options, and I think a lot of my strengths fit this offense.?

Thats great to hear, he was brought in to improve our passing offense and looks like he is being given the chance to show what he can do. He seems to have settled well with the Jets anyway.

Yes the early reports on him are that he can run & catch. That is certainly a + playing the position he does

It's the same thing the Giants did with Shockey in his first year. When you have a versitile athlete like Keller you use him where you can. Another guy to plug into the predictable fade into the corner. I really want to see how he can affect the seams. I hope he tears em up.

I have high hopes for this guy. He's a freakish athlete but also has a good head on his shoulders and he is on a team that drafted him to cause mismatches and to open the offense up for other guys. I really hope he stays healthy...but barring any K.Winslow foolishness looks like this kid could be another playmaker we so desperately need. Keeping my fingers crossed that our skill players can stay healthy this season...

I love that it was a controvercial pick because it is only going to make our FO seem even smarter when he becomes a massive weapon for the Jets. I love the idea of him as well and I can't wait to see how he plays. Who is going to be able to guard him?

Thats what i was just thinking GD. When he was drafted a chorus of Boo's went up but yet every Jets fan i have talked to likes the pick and can't wait to get him on the field. Why was it such a unpopular pick at the time?

Because we traded up to get a TE that was on no one's wish list (except the FO). I hated it too, until the reasoning behind the pick was explained. Now I'm excited.

any offense that doesn't have that classic #1 WR needs this type of hybrid TE/WR running around the field from the TE position. there are likely very few LB that can cover this guy and maybe a handful of safeties that can stay with him.

will also open up things for guys like leon washington out of the backfield or spread wide and the slot receiver - whomever that may be.

of course - it all starts with the offensive line being able to block 4 and 5 man rushes without having to keep a RB/TE to help.

the more i read about this guy and hear these good things the more i like him. at first i was furious about the pick considering we traded up for it and he probably would have been there, but as the positive news keeps flowing in the level of satisfaction rises. hopefully he can be like shockey rookie year

it was so unpopular because it was so unsuspecting. No one was talking about upgrading the TE spot.

Fair enough, can understand moving up etc just thought we had made a great choice, and now all the good news is filtering through and we see the possibilities of having the guy on the field everyone seems to be liking it. Good job by the FO for me.

Ya know, I've been giving this subject a lot of thought.

    Kelly is a dude.

I'm on to you, Melvin Jenkins Jr. of Hoboken. Enough with the pictures of your third cousin.

Oh yeah, Dustin Keller, blah blah blah...

Oh I've got the perfect way to prove this: Kelly, take a picture of yourself with your camera phone or computer camera or whatever. Make it a picture of you with your eyes closed, with one hand on your forehead crossing your fingers.

If you can supply this picture, OK you're Kelly and you're hot. If not...

I am so fucking on to you, MELVIN.

None of the pictures are actually of Kelly herself. They're of assorted famous people - usually the singer from Evanescence or Alicia Silverstone.

I bet psychologists would have a field day with Kelly. It's almost a new gender confusion malady. Men who masquerade as women on the internet. It's not quite transvestitism or transsexualism. It's Internet-transgenderism. Somebody should write a paper.

Well, if you insist. I am a scholar and I do have a profound understanding of psychology.
